Results Results: 1st Unofficial National 50 Benchrest League Match & USARB - Open Grove

We welcomed 12 shooters for a beautiful Sunday morning. There were 10 shooters competing at 50 yards on the new National 50 Benchrest League target to try out for the first unofficial N50BL match. There were two rimfires and .177, .22, .25 and 30 cal pellets competing together. Note those shooting .177 did well compared to the larger pellets thanks to the large .35 scoring plug. Scores & rifles as shown.

Rules: http://national50.org/

It was nice to have Matt and his son Abdul drive the long way to be with us along with some of our regulars shooting 25m on USARB targets.

Conditions started off pleasant but as each relay began the winds and the switch picked up. Personally, am pleased with the participation at 50 yards and hope it will continue and grow in the N50BL. Scoring plugs and targets will be available soon as we officially kick off the new League. Thanks for being patient. A preliminary website is up, National50.org, to review the target & rules. Thank you Dick Strever!

Overall, it was a good time, and thank you shooters for your support, all the goodies to munch on, help with scoring and air from MAC1

For those interested, we would like to have a few more matches in the month, these would be on a Wednesday starting at 9am. Just email me to let me know.

Regards,
Joe

Mike,

The owner got the gun looking and shooting the way he likes (stock as delivered was ugly, and so big it could have made two guns), and he is fussy owner so he installed a Rapid stock, with few mods, but he doesnt fix whats not broke, so no reg.

I see tethering is allowed. He could get the benefits of a regulator by tethering to a regulated tank. No changes to the gun needed.

I’m just joking....no ill intent meant. I know your disdain for regulators.

Mike

Mike,

I know there is a place for them (regs i mean), but i liked getting by without one unless it makes little sense to not use one. Back in the day, when they were all buried deep in the gun and could’nt be repaired, or even adjusted easily, it made more sense to avoid them, I designed my precharged gun design about 23 years ago, AFTER a fair bit of experience building regs and tuning other guns equipped with them that lead me to build a rifle that could perform as well or better than what was available back in the 90’s.

Back then, I was mostly into field target and hunting groundsquirrels and a good gun really became less reliable when retro-fitted with a reg, and new guns that came so equipped often developed problems the owner couldnt deal with and sellers often couldn’t either.

My design works fine for hunting and Field Target, since the added volume of my reservoir isnt a hindrance in that sort of shooting, and since my guns don’t need high pressure, I can get by for a lot of shooting with just a small guppy tank for a few more top-ups, say for a three day event or sumthing.

I know there are lots of USFT rifles equipped with regulated paintball tanks, and they work, though to me the regs are not as stable after a few seasons .... but they are so cheap its easy enough to carry a spare thats set for identical output that can be changed in a few mins in the field. That said, I still prefer the old style guns.

My LV gun works well using a 900psi charge, topping up when it gets down to 750psi. Fifty shots ranging 778-790 fps is good enough around here.
