Removing O-Rings

I always cringe when I see people using steel tools on steel oring grooves. One bad scratch/gouge, and you have a leak with no way to fix it.

Brass, plastic, wood picks would be better. I will grant you they are hard to find.

I'll grant you that the above are fairly coarse implements for the tiny rings in most airguns. At work, we use purpose made picks that we whittle out of brass wire/rod stock with grinders and files. If the tip breaks, we just re-sharpen it and go again.
 
The ones at amazon look the best in polymer. I can make the wooden ones with an exacto knife & some dowel rod. Brass looks ok, but Craftsman seem to be made the best. I can't tell how many times I've needed those rebuilding the old Holley 4BBLS. Nothing like the proper tools of the trade! I need to start restoring the Crosman 160 I found in the Master bedroom closet. Idk where the heck it cam from...?...
