I noticed some pest birds out near the feeder, mixed with the natives; a sparrow, and some starlings in the tree, starting to get comfortable.
It was again perfect timing. Wife was doing the dishes. Daughter was having a tantrum (which are best ignored anyhow) Son was doing homework. The stars had aligned. I slunk out to the breezeway without fanfare and unlocked the Compatto. Just then a brave nutter, who had been calling all morning for a mate charged in and chased off all the birds.
I drilled that first nutter, right through the Off Switch, between the eye and ear. (12 FPE, didn't go through) A second one, which I hadn't seen before, started to beat a hasty retreat. But he couldn't stay away. He cautiously made his way back down and started to feed. He too, took his medicine, a H&N Baracuda Hunter in the eye, at an angle. 17 FPE, didn't seem to go through. Probably went through the brain and down the neck. The H&N Baracuda Hunters really seem to be doing a great job at transferring their energy into the game. In the slo-mo, you can really hear the second one get hit hard: "WHOCK!"
I didn't open them up to find the pellets. Not worth the trouble at this time of year. I just want to knock as many of them out of the gene pool as possible; and keep them out of my attic. I threw the carcasses into the back corner of the yard for the possums to clean up. If they find them there and poop, I don't care. That way, I won't have to drill them too. When they start pooping in the main part of the yard, they become pests too. I prefer them to act as janitors for the sparrows and nutters I'm taking out.
I got a couple more the day before, but not on video. Just nice plain head shots like these.
Please remember to click 'Like' on these if you like them. It's not too many views, since the vids are Unlisted, but every little bit helps. If I can just get the YouTube revenue to buy me a tin of pellets every now and then, I'm happy.
