I have a Prochrono that is very temperamental. I am trying to register slow 177 cal pellets and bbs in shade or sun, but it is not recognizing them. Does anybody know of a cheap reliable chrono made for slingshots and airguns, especially 177 caliber?

I got a older ond of these Chinese bolt on . I shoot .177 through it and dont get many or if at all errors .
There advertisment shows a slingshot used so ???
Thing is you read guys saying theres has issues then guys saying theres dont .. mines worked fine and i like it .. i figured i really like a pro chrony if i had one as well. Maybe a luck of the draw thing on hos any one you get does ..,???

Just to add to said above is you can google homemade chronograph diffuser/ lights/ sunshade..ect and maybe find a nice easy diy setup that works great .. i guess between forums and YouTube theres some thing to look at ..

I have several shooting ranges that require travel. Sooo, I have several chronos. As said above, Adding the light kit solved my cranky Pro Chrono. Sadly their light kit is expensive and needs 120vac.....Caldwell has an LED light kit that with very little effort fits the Pro Chron and works off batteries just fine. It is half the price of the Pro Chrono at MidwayUSA.
The rods supporting the Caldwell light bars needed a wrap of tape to tighten fit with the chrono body and a little tweak to hold the light bars.

the little china one has led's built in , i have had caldwells and the china one is just as accurate and never misses . $23 when i bought it off Amazon .

Agree, I have tried the cheepy chinese and they are very compact and easy to travel with.
There's an old saw about the man with two watches that never knows what time it is. I am over invested in chronographs from Lab Radar to $30 imports and they are all very close to each other over the 500-1k fps range.
I have also shot a Chrony "master beta" (jeepers!) and it deserved it.

I cleaned the sensor light, but there was no change. However, it records 22 cal pellet velocities well, but not BBs and 177 cal pellets. It use to record 177 cal pellets, maybe 33% of the time, but BBs rarely in sunlight. Now, after 25 times, it has failed to record a 177 cal pellet velocity in the bright sunshine, some shade, and under a big fluorescent lamp (22 cal pellet worked). Not sure if LED lights will change that. Need a more sensitive chronograph, but those Prochrono are not cheap and are highly rated.

I have found my very old Prochrono gets uppity when the batteries are near exhaustion....sometimes it works and sometimes very spotty.

I remember reading my manual that fluorescent lighting will not work. Direct sunlight is also not good. In direct sunlight, use the defusers, overcast or cloudy, remove them. The light kit they sell and have, uses infrared led's. Don't think my kit cost more than $50. Worked well using it under a canopy.

I tried this one and it worked for both a 177 cal pellet gun and a bb gun. plus you can use it indoors.
