Regulator test and confirmation of factory regulator pressure setting for HM1000x.LRT .30 caliber purchased in 2022.

Findings over three days.

• Initial test had on gun bottle pressure from 150 - 235 BAR, HUMA digital gauge connected to plenum measured on average averaged 143.3 BAR +-.2 prior to any dry firing.
• Dry firing three shots approximately 5 seconds apart, regulator pressure connected to plenum showed 143.3, 144.2 and 145 +-.2 BAR.
• Plenum pressure after sitting overnight averaged 143.3 BAR +-.2
• Tethered gun using 95 cu. ft. carbon fiber tank with dual regulator with output set at 235 BAR, gun was at 155 BAR prior to connection. After connection tank was warm to the touch. Three shots approximately 5 second apart showed plenum regulator pressure from 143.3 to 145 +- .2 BAR
• After 20 minutes plenum regulator pressure ranged from 144.6 to 145. BAR
• After two hours plenum regulator pressure ranged from 143.8 +- .2 BAR
• At the two hour mark I took six shots about 10 seconds apart with a pressure of 145.5 after the first shot and then averaging 145.8 for the shots thereafter.
• Overnight plenum pressure readings ranged from 142.9 - 143.6 averaging 143.1 +- .2 Bar most of the time. Six shots about 5 seconds apart while gun was tethered at 235 BAR had the following plenum pressure readings, 144.8-145, 145.8, 145.8, 145.8-146.2
• 145.6 - 146.1 and 145.7 - 146.4.
• 5 minutes later pressure read 145.9 - 146.2 with 145.9 - 146.0 being the most common range.

Things to watch on next trip to range.

• What is velocity of the first two or three shots as starting plenum pressure was averaging around 2 BAR less prior to the first two or three shots where plenum pressure was averaging 145.8 +- .2 BAR.
• Barrel was cleaned during this test as the gun had previously approximately 70 pellets or slugs shot. Possible variance in velocity may be impacted from clean barrel and possible leading up, so velocity and precision may be impacted, further testing will illuminate.
• Shoot close to two dozen various pellets and slugs measuring velocity with LabRadar while gun is tethered off a Ransom Precision front and rear rests using a Ransom remote trigger system while sighting through the Nightforce NX8 4-32 X 56 F1 optic and Triggercam aimed and viewed on a tablet. Aiming will be done via adjustments built into the rests.
• If necessary I will weight the gun down with shot bags if movement from recoil is impacting precision.
• At the end of testing test to see what if any change in the point of impact between shooting off rests with remote firing system and personally shooting the gun.

Things to consider

• Controlling plenum pressure via the external dual regulator by adjusting the internal regulator to a high pressure setting, say 200 BAR with the bottle pressure perhaps starting at 145 BAR and increasing the pressure in 5 or 10 BAR increments and noting velocity while trying various hammer spring settings. Record all data and settings.
• I may be looking for velocity nodes at various plenum pressure settings and testing to see what settings work best for various projectiles. Looking for those that off the most precision, hopefully finding a .30 caliber slug that shoots well.
• Will I need a heavier hammer?
• Is the RAW HM1000x incapable of shooting .30 caliber slugs with excellent precision due to its inability to shoot them at the required velocities? Will the addition of an external plenum offer an increase in slug precision and performance?
