Regulator Gauge?

Researching possible new PCP and wondering about the pros and cons of a regulator gauge? Not the regulator itself, just the gauge... Beyond obvious value of indicating pressure to breech, I'd think it also adds possibility of leaks and potential service issues. And does the presence of a gauge indicate that the related regulator can be adjusted?

Thanks,

Almost all regulators can be adjusted, by some means or the other. A few can be adjusted externally, but many require degassing and adjusting, or changing the spring stack.

If the stock power is plenty for your needs and you do not plan on ever adjusting, then the gauge is not needed. Myself, prefer the gauge so I can see where it is set to, and can monitor creep. While gauges can leak, they are also easy to replace.

A gauge is helpful especially if you have a gun with adjustable reg. I have an FX wildcat MK 2, which I can adjust the reg, with only taking the stock of. It does not have a reg gauge when delivered form factory. It is possible to adjust without a gauge, if I measure the max speed of the pellet with a chronograph, as it usually is not the pressure itself which is important. But rather the max speed of the pellet in relation to the speed you want to tune the gun for. I modified the stock on that gun, and attached a reg in the bleed hole, as many other also have done. It is just easier to adjust with a gauge. And you have a number to wright down when tuning. Usually the most important thing to have easy access to is the hammer spring adjuster, as that is the main thing you usually adjust when tuning. Some never adjust the reg at all.
