Regulator behavior

I have two regulated guns:

pp700sa

airforce gun with altaros regulator with 14cc extra plenum. This gun also has a heavy (95g) hammer.

On the aretemis, changing the hammer spring load has a big effect on how much energy I get out of it.

With the airforce altaros regulator the power wheel makes almost no difference at all. Only 3 more FPS on "13" than on "1"

I wonder why this is? Maybe the hammer is hitting so hard that even at the lowest power wheel settings all the air in the regulator is being released. I can't think of any other explanation. One other factor... is it is a talon tunes super high output valve. I am using a stock hammer spring.

Any thoughts regulator experts?

I don't own a Talon but 150 bar reg setpoint should be plenty in .25 for decent power. Especially with a large plenum that typically affords a 10% lower setpoint for similar power as would be available with a small plenum.

Are your ports all at 5mm?

In that case it is time to experiment (taking notes of each reg setpoint & HST position, and the resulting power + consistent shotcount).

Good luck! 🐦

Great advice thank you

sadly it's going be a while before I'm able to rise to that level of tuning because I'm hand pumping and the altaros regulator has an internal set dial requiring me to depressurize a tank to change the setting. an exhausting thing to do more than just a couple of times. I've tested at a little above 150 bar. Power is fine I think. I measured as low as 28 fpe (with a port restrictor) and as high as 60 fpe (open port, 60 grain slug). that's just a tiny bit more energy than I get out of that same barrel with the stock TalonP valve. So the regulator is providing enough air for a satisfying amount of power.

The valve I am using apparently can be used with a heavier spring and higher pressure tanks. I'm not using a heavier spring, I am just using a stock spring from a talon p (same as condor) and a heavier hammer.

it would be really nice to be able to dial power back a bit with the power wheel and use less air when i feel like it. Putting in the restrictors is in not hard, but I'd rather have another option than that. I could try putting in a lighter hammer. I have two lighter weight configs I can try. It's a little bit of a headache to do but it's not as bad as messing around with the regulator setpoint.

I would suggest to contact Motorhead, he likely has the best US address.

I get mine from hkdzfastener store on Aliexpress, but the shipping takes a few weeks.
