Tuning Regulated tuning

I’ve never had a regulated gun til I got my Flex. At first I was pretty happy with even though I hardly ever shoot it. It was running in the 860’s. I wanted to turn it up a little bit & I got it in the 920’s now but it seems like an air hog. 


what is the tuning process on a regulated gun? I have the reg set around 2300 & just turned the hammer spring till I got the velocity I wanted but it just doesn’t have a crisp sound, uses to much air & I can’t get right.

For the most part you just adjust your hammer to where the gun is shooting the highest velocity then back it off 3-5%. More power will use more air for sure it's a always a balancing act between shot count and power.

That was my very first though cause I knew it really didn’t have enough plenum volume. So I inquired about that but i gets ignored. So then I though we’ll I’ll get a .22 caliber barrel, Pm’ed someone about getting a barreled done & same thing, ignored. I even inquired about other things for this rifle & it all gets ignored. Like this rifle is taboo, nobody wants to talk about it. all this was done on another forum through thread & personal messages but gets ignored.

Did you do a search on how to tune your gun around a reg setting? Did you follow the steps and see how your gun sounds and shoots afterwards? This info is out there and it sounds like you did the first step but it seems like you want someone to hold your hand and maybe that’s why you are being ignored. You’re asking a question that’s been beat to death.

I did a search & I think may have an understanding now. I’m gonna try to tune it today. But for being ignored had nothing to do with tuning, it had to do with getting parts & other simple questions with repairs since I’ve never owned a regulated rifle before.

That’s where you start. You might find best accuracy and efficiency at 880, 870 or maybe 900. It depends on the gun and just how much you want out of it.

Thanks for the info, I think I got it figured out. I took the moderator off so I could hear the shot better, I cranked the hammer spring in till the gun would cock then backed off till it cocked. Reg set around 2200 got an avg of 928. 901 would be my 3%. I backed the hammer spring off til I got close, at 900 the gun sounded very crisp & a lot quieter. Any lower in FPS the gun got burpy. Got it back to 900, did a 10 shot string & got 899-906. Then I did a 5 shot group at 30. I’ll stretch farther when I get time. But I think this pretty good for now.

Ok well i shot the Flex at 50 & results wasn’t good. I only had time for a 5 shot group & it was about 1”. 2 shots was hole in hole other 3 was spread out. I’m gonna clean the barrel & try again tomorrow. If that don’t work I’ll degas & start with the reg at 1500 & work my way back up again till I get good groups.

A 1" group at 50 yards is not necessarily an indication that anything is wrong. Your 30 yard group, unless it was an exception, certainly indicates that you are in the right velocity range. I would clean the barrel and then shoot some groups. One group is almost meaningless to determine consistent performance. Your reg setting is around 150 bar, which seems too high for a standard power .22. You might find a slightly better balanced tune by backing down the reg set point a little, and using a different hammer spring setting, but maintaining your current velocity.
