Refurbished Seneca Aspen: Goes From Easy-to-Pump to "What the ??!!!*&&$"

Ok...so today I was doing some longer-distance sighting in of my refurbished Aspen. I had decided to keep the dial at 3K and then give a handful of pumps after each shot; manageable, and it was working fine. Then, it's like Iii caaannnnttt puullll the leverr...down....

I got no clue.

I've de-pressurized the gun multiple times. I've lubricated the tube. I did have occasion when the "Protective Cap for Pre-pressurized Air Chamber" came off ... all by itself .... Of course I put it back on, and it did work for a while after that.

Still, I'm at a complete loss. I intend on contacting the vendor tomorrow to see what my options are.

Anyway, thanks for whatever suggestions others have.

Sigh (again).

You probably going to have to return it to have them fix it. I have a Aspen and it got real hard to pump so I lubed pump, pumped it a few stroke then lubed it some more, pump some more then lube some more until it started to pump like it should. That few drops ever 300 shots is for the birds and just doesn't work. At least it didn't work for me. Another thing to do is pump it back up after only 1 to3 shots and don't go above around 3K psi.

This is a shot string I did with my Aspen in .22 with the hammer spring turned all of the way in to bottom then counter clock 1/2 turn.

Ok...so here's where we are.

At this time I am planning on returning the Aspen. The vendor has offered a couple of suggestions for replacements. But before I ask for input from y'all, I wanted to provide some context for the gun's use.

I have no intention of going on a hunting trip with the gun; it's only intended use is as varmint control around the buildings. So while I liked the idea of the Aspen not requiring extra equipment (pump) to fill with air, I am fine with having a separate pump since I won't be going far at all. Varmints include just about anything: possum, raccoon, squirrel, birds (up to and including crows), etc.

Once I got started talking to the sales rep about replacement guns, he brought up the reality that both of his recommended guns should provide between 20 and 30 consistent shots per fill, something I hadn't considered. That should be more than sufficient for my purpose.

As I'm not a big guy, a lighter gun would be preferred. And while I'm guessing the Aspen was actually heavier than either of the guns the rep recommended, I do consider weight to be an issue, especially if there's no reasonable way to have a sling for the gun.

Also, I was fine with the scope that came with the Aspen, especially since I anticipate most shots being within 45 yards. But, I am open to considering a better/more powerful scope than came with the Aspen. Further, while the Aspen I have is in .22, I am open to both .177 and .25. Admittedly, however, the .22 seemed reasonable.

Anyway, so here's what's been suggested:

1) Gamo Urban

2) Hatsan Flash

Finally, I'd be grateful for input on these two guns, as well as suggestions for other alternatives.

P.S. I heard that the multi-pellet magazine for the Gamo Urban is ridiculously expensive ($50). Does anyone have insights as to decent alternatives?

Thank you!
