Reducing springer power or factory alternative

I've got a (HyScore 813) which is a 1970s Diana 23 (177) with iron sights and I'd like to get a heavier (6-8 lbs) rifle with a scope to simulate my powder rifle. I don't care if its a .177 or .22 as long is its quiet/low powered. I'm limited to shooting in the house at a max of about 25 yards and all the options I see are full powered air guns which is way more power than I want/need. I don't want a pellet to run through two layers of drywall and end up outside somewhere. I'd consider shooting in the back yard if it was quiet enough but I'm not finding anything like that without paying big bucks. I can't find any low powered rifles so It looks like I need to mod something. Rifles in the $100-200 range seem fine for shorter distances so that's about what I expect to spend.

I'm looking at the Benjamin Prowler Nitro Piston or the Stoeger X20S. I've chosen them because of reviews/weight/scope. I hear the export version of the Stoeger X20S can be modded to the German standards which sounds appealing. I was expecting to find a Youtube vid of someone doing this but haven't had luck. It seems like you can ..remove a part that effectively shortens the spring and uncovers the hole in the piston? I think that's what I read but can't find the article or good instructions.

Anyone know of any articles that detail this process or have alternative suggestions. Ideally the rifle would have sling swivels so I can practice with a sling but I can do without.

The best short distance rifle I’ve owned was FWB 300 . They turn up on eBay from time to time. They are definitely not cheap but good stuff isn’t.

I love my HW30 and AOA has them on sale but they are a little more then $200. It’s a good all around air rifle. Probably the last one I’d part with . I took a coil or two out of the spring to use indoors .

Done, I put the order in last night and this morning another member sent me a PM to let me know they had a deal in the pre-owned section for the stainless version--and $40 cheaper. Lets see if AOA lets me change the order. Anyways I'll add a pic when she comes in. Thanks guys. A bit more than I was initially expecting to spend but its got all the features I was looking for and I bet shell still be running in 40 years like my Hy-Score 813 is. Now I just need to find a spot where I can shoot from my front door through a window to the back yard and across to the fence where my neighbors won't hear or see.

So I've got it and run about 500 7.4g Walmart Crossmans through it. The rifles a great indoor shooter/ It's quiet but not a stealth gun. Ill be keeping it as an indoor gun unless I get a moderator and maybe cut a few links off the spring. Maybe I'll get a second and mod that one while I keep this one stock. Thanks for staring me in the right direction!

Out of curiosity. AOA test fires all guns to make sure they are in good shape and sends a copy of the chrono results. They also send a proving target to show accuracy accept they don't do that with springers (they do send the chrono readout.). Any idea why? Are we not expecting good accuracy out of springers? I think a printed target would be nice. I'm totally fine with not getting one but curious about why.
