Reduce Cocking Force on Benjamin Discovery .22

I just purchased a .22 cal Benjamin Discovery for my 13 year old grandson. He is not a big kid for his age and is having trouble using the bolt to load pellets. The bolt is small on the Benjamin Discovery and he has small hands. Is there another larger after market bolt that will work with this gun or is there some way to decrease the force needed to pull the bolt back to load the pellet.

Any help is appreciated.

Jim are you handy? so he doesn't have enough leverage or is it just strength yet

is what I would do is unscrew the bolt handle and head the hardware store and buy a longer bolt, as in hex bolt

and have him test if that makes a difference and if that is the fix

I found that you can take the hammer spring out and replace it with one for a 2240 co2 gun and it is easy to cock but still gets good power. I tried a larger bolt handle and it helped a little but it also broke after not too long.

replace the hammer spring with a lighter one. A 1377/1322 spring will drop right in.

c-m-shooter...Thanks for the input. I am not too familiar with this gun yet. If I replace the stock hammer spring with one that is lighter will it reduce the velocity/FPE of this gun. I do have on hand the Baker Trigger Mod kit if I need to reduce the pull weight/travel of the trigger .

Thanks to everyone who has given me feedback on how I might solve this issue. My grandson might need to do some work on developing his hand strength to pull this bolt back.

Yes, it will reduce the power (and increase shot count) a little. That is a good thing, Discos are oversprung to begin with.

 You say he is having trouble loading the pellets? as in closing the bolt, rather than actually cocking the hammer spring,? could be the lead (as in leading edge) going into the rifling, needs to be cleaned up also, in addition to the bolt and spring advice given

Does anyone know of a "spring" kit? maybe like sample springs to try out to see what ones work best?
