Red Wolf on a tripod?

@Dairyboy - something like that is an option I have considered but I'm afraid to support all the rearward weight of the gun from that forward a point.

At the end of the day a bit irrelevant as I plan to sell my RW for something a bit more manageable - it's a really big airgun and I'm just into smaller, lighter and more compact options. Someone's going to get a sweet gun for a sweet deal today.

Thanks for the replies: ctshooter states what I’m concerned about which is all the rearward weight. I have seen the picatinny rail installed at the front of the stock, but it looks like I’d have to remove it from the tripod every time I want to walk away from the gun, at least when using it standing. Table top tripod with a rear bag would work.

dairyboy, yes I could mount an Arca rail but I have a new ball head on order from RRS which attaches to either picatinny or Arca so I’d probably go with pic which I could also use to mount a bipod. It’s this one:

Anvil 30

From RRS website “The first of its kind Really Right Stuff SOAR Anvil-30 Ball head is purpose-built for heavy equipment support from the ground up. We added our patent-pending dual clamp system able to clamp both the RRS Dovetail standard and Picatinny rails in the same unit. We also removed extra knobs/adjustment settings under-utilized in the industry. The Anvil-30 is as rigid as a leveling base but articulates like our popular photography ball heads while minimizing the limitations of each system. We designed this as a lightweight setup and realized its heavy duty potential.”

I ordered it two weeks ago which is about how long they told me it would be, but haven’t seen it yet.

An option I have been considering for a semi permanent mount on any air rifle, is a very small square/bidirectional arca plate onto which one can attach a longer Nodal Rail to allow a loner rail for better balance;

ie: attach one of these using either existing threaded insert or add your own,

This stays on your rifle, but when you want a long arca rail just attach one of these available in different lengths;

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I already have any number of air and pb rifles I shoot off a tripod, but they’ve got either:

1) very stout picatinny rail with Arca adapter

Or

2) wood or fiberglass stock to which I’ve secured an Arca plate

In the magpul hunter stock above, I took apart the forearm, put in a threaded backer plate, protected the threads and bedded the plate in epoxy.
All of the above are rock solid; I can shoot, walk away from the rifle and it stays right there.

I’m told by AOA and others that this isn’t the case with the Red Wolf; there is not enough “meat” (wood) in the right place to securely mount a rail or Arca plate to leave the rifle sitting on its own as on my other rifles. Apparently a pic rail can be screwed on securely enough to mount a bipod, but I’m looking for a rock solid way to mount to my tripod.

CyberDyne, that plate is similar to ones I’ve used, but again, how to secure it to Red Wolf stock to securely hold the weight of the gun?

woogie man what is the connection between your red wolf and the tripod? The bottle mount? Is that solid enough to support the weight of the gun?

BTW, as I posted earlier in this thread, I’m doing everything possible to minimize the distance between the rifle and the tripod. Some of the ball heads and rail systems are 3 to 4 inches tall and really maximize the distance between the two, creating a “moment” which leads to instability. I eliminated the ball head and started using a leveling plate on my tripod a few years ago but still, depending on the rifle, have to add an Arca adapter to the picatinny rail thus increasing distance from rifle to tripod. I’m really looking forward to getting my Anvil 30 and eliminating most adapters and mounting directly to the picatinny rail.
