recycling or reusing fired pellets

Hi Sharrof,

I recently built myself a pellet trap of the "snail" type, out of welded steel plates. It does a very good job of not letting any lead splatter around my backyard. A colleague at work is a fisherman, and casts lead sinkers/weights for fishing. He is happy to take my lead scrap. If you don't know any fishermen (fisherpersons?) personally, you might try talking to a couple of local bait/tackle shops that deal with anglers. One I spoke to (I was buying some high-test monofilament to use for pulling patches through my air rifles) said he'd gladly give me a discount on fishing stuff in exchange for lead scraps - they also cast their own line of lead sinkers to sell. Good luck and good shooting.

Well, I can't speak for others, but here is what I do.

I own a lead pot, like those used by folks who cast their own lead bullets, as used in muzzle loaders, and other black-powder arms. I have an ingot mold, and each section holds one pound of lead. While it takes a whole lot of pellets to fill even a one pound section (≈100 in my case), it still amazes me how short of time it takes! I guess I could sell the lead, but one of the local breakfast guys is really involved in Cowboy shooting events, I give him the lees.
