Recommend Rings for this set up

One of these or the Chinese equivalent. They help save your scope often from fairly certain doom on a springer. I have a couple of thousand rounds through mine, now on my Diana 54, with no scope failures and excellent accuracy. It is made in China these days though.

The Airmax line IS springer rated. But if you're still concerned you could get the Diana mount or the Sportsmatch Dampa mount, which I have on a gun and like better.

Mine is the Sportsmatch Dampa mount. It only comes as a one piece mount. That is on an hw50s with a Athlon Talos scope. The Talos is not "springer rated", that's why I went with the Dampa mount. I have a Hawke Airmax scope I'm going to put on a 97K as soon as some rings come in. I don't need a Dampa mount for that.

Which scope is it, what size objective? My scope is the 4x16x44 and on the 97 it has about 1/8" clearance with the medium Hawke rings.
I just looked at the AoA site ant their specs say the 30mm Dampa mount will fit scopes up to 50mm.

Looks like Dampa rings come only in high profile version. Mine is 3-12 X40

Good choice?? It depends. It will work fine, no problem. The airmax line is springer rated so you don't NEED to use anything other than less expensive ordinary rings. The thing to consider if you use other rings is ring height. I just looked at the Hawke website and if yours is the 50mm objective you will need high rings.
ETA- stupid me, you just said it was 40mm, duh! Medium rings will work but it depends on how you hold your head when you shoot. If you are used to holding your head more upright then you may be more comfortable with high rings. If you are used to leaning your head over more then mediums would work fine. Medium will keep the scope closer to the bore so there will be less hold over/under to deal with, but I think that is secondary to being comfortable in your hold.
