Skout Rebuild but Regulator is still leaking...badly

Hi,
My Evo HP regulator began leaking badly when trying to go from 1500 to 1800-1900 psi. I took it apart to find a blown internal SK-OU9009 x ring in the MFE-103. I bought an o-ring kit from Skout as I had every ring EXCEPT that size.

Skout overnighted the kit and included new MFE-103 PLUS an upgrade to the SK-FLT103, which they claimed was causing problems. Thanks guys!!!

I replaced all o-rings in both regs and reassembled. I didn't notice any bad o-rings other than the aforementioned above and saw no scratches or gouges. When I opened the valve to the bottle, it was like a torrent of air coming out the front of the HP reg.
I tore everything down again and rebuilt again ...same thing.

I also tried buna N90's I had bought...nope.

So, with that, does anyone know what the culprit might be, where I should concentrate my efforts? Of course I won't be able to get a hold of Skout until Monday. and of course its warmed up and the winds have subsided.

Thanks for any help....

I am having a similar issue with my new Epoch purchased around the holidays. Keith is working to help me and has sent me a new reg with resdesigned poppet. That resolved the leaking that started at around 1500 psi...I could feel the air escaping from between the hi and low pressure reg knobs.

Now, my compressor stops filling at 64 bar...Keith thought it might be the new reg didn't seat properly and advised I back it out then back in and try again. Did so but no change. However, this time I was able to hear where the air is leaking and verified it by putting my finger over the joint and hearing a difference in sound so I believe I'm on the right track.
My compressor may have been drowning out the leak sound...or my old ears...🙄

Dental pick in pic shows where the air is leaking. I'm guessing it's an o-ring failure...

Keith's efforts have been excellent and I don't mean to sound like a whiny baby...just a bit diappointed that there are so many leaks occurring in a brand new air rifle from a company with such a stellar rep.
I'm sure it will be resolved eventually.

I just passed this info onto Keith this morning so I am hopeful we can now resolve these leak issues by swapping out the suspect part and allow me to finally enjoy this fine airgun. 🤞

Has anyone else had a leak from this area of their Epoch?

Cheers

Not on an EPOCH as I have an EVO with that same issue. Replaced all O-Rings, made it worse.
I gotta call Skout and find out what my next move is.
You are correct though, I have had this rifle for more than 2 months and have only 'shot' it one day (55 shots) due to issues cropping up. Seemingly random, but none the less, frustrating.

Here ya go...this should help with that leak

Thank you sir. Very helpful...🙏

The response from Keith was this image with instructions to check the o-rings circled. It makes sense that a failure of either of the O-rings would cause the leak at the junction mentioned in the vid, which is my Epoch's issue as well.
I am hopeful this is the final fix if we find one or both o-rings have failed...🤞

I can't even remove this part from the EVO....because the other 3 pieces do not come out as one. Only the initial nut comes out, the pin and it's 'holder' are stuck inside. I tried tapping the entire housing without luck.
It LOOKS SO EASY when it's done in the video....

I couldn't get that one out either .. but later found the leak stopped without having to mess with those 2 o rings
i tried dipping it in hot water to maybe loosen it up..but it really want to stay there

Just read this thread. If it were me I’d have used some form of heat, like a heat gun.

It’s taken me a little over a year to finally beat the leaks. Being persistent helps, and my advice to a new Skout owner or someone considering getting a skout, it’s going to require maintenance on a regular basis. I just noticed my ES climb up to 16 fps in 88 shots. That’s too much, as I’m used to 4-7 fps spreads, so that’s my cue to service the valve

Bigragu --=--

While I'm still learning about the Skout rifles, it seems to me that they require more maintenance than the other air rifles that I currently have.

If I can't even get things to stop leaking, it just sits in the safe while I shoot the others. That ain't right!

I will continue to chip away at repairing, but this is getting old quick.
Your advice is ALWAYS taken well, and I will give this a try.

I'm assuming that since I tried to remove the rest of those parts, I jarred something loose or damaged something, because the leak is MUCH worse now than before I resealed it per the video (except that small part that I cannot remove).

*****UPDATE on my LEAK*****
Not trying to Thread-Jack here....

Okay, so I contacted Skout and spoke with Keith (nice guy), after some time to locate him via the phone answerer Daryl, then Bill, the guy that did the latest video for the fill area 'fixes'.

Keith's advice is to test for leaks first, if none are present, then it's good. While I had already tested for leaks, there were a couple of spots that he told me of that are not obvious, the small holes at the bottom of the two regulators.

I pressurized to 1,500PSI initially and it seemed to hold over a two-hour period. It was then bumped up to 2,000PSI and I can now detect from the gauge, that there is a small leak somewhere. It has dropped a mere 100PSI in 2.5 hours.

I cannot see any leaks via using the leak detection fluid. Checked the fill port portion of the rifle, the swivel gap and fill port itself, the "On-Off" valve, the connection to the rifle block, all gauges, the tiny holes at the bottom of the regulators (2 on HP, 1 on LP) and the burst disc....NADA!

I had already replaced the O-Rings at the solenoid where the upper and lower meet, plus tightened up the two solenoid screws and prescribed by Skout (not sure how that would be tested with the electronics right there?).

I'm outta options as far as I can tell. Once I can get more air, I'll pump it up to 3,000PSI and see what else might develop, or produce a detectable leak.

Keith stated to call him if I still have questions, so I will on Tuesday as they are off for the long weekend now.

I got a pair of nylon jaw needle nose pliers and was able to remove piece 135.4 from 135.1 ...some gunk had built up and made the connection solid

With no intentions to jack Gunsndrums thread, I thought it would be helpful to update my progress with my chronically leaky like new Epoch...

After a lengthy discussion with Keith concerning my dissatisfaction with the amount of leak issues inherent in my brand new Skout and the incessant repairs I have attempted to resolve leak issues with a brand new Epoch with zero shots fired through it, he has agreed to make it right by sending a new Epoch with a 25" LW barrel and accepting the returned defective Epoch, with the assurance that if I experience any issues with the new Epoch, a return and full refund will be issued.
Gotta say, that's great customer service. Glad to see a manufacturer stand by their product with such dedication to customer satisfaction.

I am hopeful second times the charm and I will finally experience the accuracy, reliability and power of the Epoch as advertised, sans leaks. 🤞

I will update my progress in a new thread, and I wish those who are still having leak issues best of luck in resolving same.

Cheers
