Really cool field trip

I'm participating in a Citizens Police Academy with the Yakima WA PD. It's a PR effort to make the citizens understand what the PD does. Tonight we talked with forensics. I asked about their research on black powder and airguns. The woman was aware of the advances in airguns but hadn't worked with any yet. She invited me to bring my guns in to test them in their lab. I can't wait. Shooting the Bulldog, Marauder and P-rod into Kevlar to capture the projectiles and examine them in the lab should be great fun. I'll of course document it as best I can and write it up.

That's cool, but I don't think the p-rod will do nothing but stop at kevlar cover. The other rifle I believe won't go through vest but would leave bruises on the human body. Plus u you will probably be shooting so close, that will make a difference.

She wants to collect the pellets/slugs to gather ballistic marking data. She wants to see how the rifling is the same or different from firearms. There's no GPR (gun powder residue) to examine either. There are a lot of differences that would baffle technicians trying to use standard firearm forensics technics.

That is so cool. You may be on the pioneering cusp of new forensic data. Maybe there will be Journal article on the findings!
