RAW TM stock refinish.

Doing this for a buddy. There was nothing wrong with it other than being a ten or so year old FT rifle. The original finish was some type of spray on and was getting thin in a few spots and the palm and cheek riser had a decent amount of dna built up. The walnut is nice but fairly plain.

This is how I received the rifle. It is not done so I will be adding as I go.

The initial sanding to get the old finish of. Fortunately it was thin and didn’t take much effort on most spots. The thumb hole area was a royal pain.

I only got a shot of the cheek riser with the first pass of paper.

I finished sanding the riser a few days before the rest of the stock. The thumb hole was just taking forever with all the small areas to sand.

So the riser has several more coats of oil. The stock only has one at this point.

And just to have some fun and stress out the owner I sent him this saying I was doing some custom colors .

The rainbow is fake. Just photoshop edit to mess with the owner. I wish I had that kind of skill with wood.

For color it is just Watco dark walnut oil. It is easy to use and doesn’t get blotchy. On top of that is plain old Truoil.

Riser is done getting oil. I will let it fully cure and give it the final buff and wax. It hit 121 here yesterday so I don’t think it will take long to fully harden. As it is it feels more like glass than wood.

The stock is going to take longer. I am breaking it down into quarters

Cheek riser looks magical. What wax are you going to apply? And why wouldn't you leave it at the last coat of oil? Added protection?

The knee riser was dropped of this morning. I don’t think it was ever used much. The original finish on it was still in great shape. So just gave it a light wet sanding and polish and will lay down a few coats of wax.
