For anyone that's interested in getting an idea on how much velocity a stock .25 HM1000X can produce, I tested various regulator and HST settings and found the max for 33gr Varmint Knockers and 33.9gr JSB MKIIs was around 945fps with my rifle; the 25.4gr JSBs fly somewhere in excess of 1000fps. This was with my reg tightened down to 73.60mm end to end (probably right at or just under 170bar). I'm able to get very tight ES with sorted ammo when I tuned it down to 920fps.

I suspect the heavy harmonics would interfere with accuracy at higher power settings, adding some big o-rings around the outside of the barrel and/or the bottle might reduce some of the resonance and tame it down to where it's at when set to the factory ~885fps.

I suppose there's some hope for this being a decent longer range slug gun 😎

Nice sharing.

You can also know the exact reg pressure by using a good guage as I have showed in my above post.

I post the pic again.

Yeah I was planning on using the drop-in Theoben Rapid tester that I got Monday, but since my reg threaded piece is apparently one from an incompatible.357 I'm working on plan B to tap into the test port. I'm an engineer and do not like to guess at data points. I'll be good to go next week 😎

In .25 34 grain pellets fps have jumped up by 22. At same settings where 34 grain was going at 900 fps now it goes at 922 fps.

In .22 18 grain jumped so high that I backed out the hammer spring as much as I could do and still get 955 fps with a spread of 3 fps in 10 shots.

It seems that O rings inside the breach and on the pin of the probe has done wonderful job

That really is an amazing efficiency gain. I finally got out in good weather today and shot 600-700 pellets / slugs, one thing that I noticed when shooting without the magazine was the big burst of air coming from the breech. Tomorrow, I'm going to do some quick velocity tests to compare shooting with and without the mag, I can imagine it's measurable.

Also worth noting, I tried shooting 5 different types of ammo today (with my reg set to around 152 bars):

  • JSB MKIIs & the regular 34gr heavies
  • Varmint Knocker 32.80gr and 33gr HP's
  • JSB 25.39gr (this was more for poops and giggles)

Out of all of these today, the regular 34gr King Heavies shot the BEST. I was able to get MOA groups at 100y with my HMx adjusted to 915fps. There was some variable winds today, and I noticed a lot more fliers at 880-890fps, they flew much better at the higher speed.

Some quick math from my LabRadar numbers but them at 0.054 BC.I only brought a partial tin of them with me today, thinking the others would be better (man was I wrong). Out of that tin, probably half were damaged 😭

I had high hopes for the MKII's, but they just don't seem to group as tight. Is anyone getting good groups with them with a poly barrel?

mtnGhost,

Check your pellet probe pivot to make sure the allen head is fully seated down.

I had an issue a while back where my .22 was getting louder and the velocity was off, so in my checking I found the pivot bolt for the

pellet probe had worked back and the pellet probe was leaking as a result.

2 minutes later with a little turning of the allen wrench and all was silent, and I had to back off the hammer adjustment to lower the velocity to within

rules.

It may not be that but it is a simple check.

I have an LRT stock for this gun as well. How do I install or remove it without breaking off the ears of the stock? Can the bottle be removed first?

Crusher

Yes. You can unscrew the bottle pressurized. It'll make a loud pop, brace yourself for it. Shoot the rifle afterwards to degas the reg.

Its been said that unscrewing it a couple of threads and then shooting it a couple of times will relieve more pressure from it (to prevent some o-ring wear). I've found that this can be deceiving, I'm never sure when the reg has actually been degassed (dry firing with no air is bad).

Crusher just D@m^!

your .30 with the BM stock and the SVSS scope and NOTA rest(did not realize that you had that one, never came up in our conversations LUCKY YOU!) what a combo!!!!!

I have considered putting my BM stock on the .30, and then throw on my Vortex Golden Eagle, but it would put me in the precision class for 100 yard and for that class you could potentially be shooting against a rail gun amongst other things it is just about an unlimited class about the only thing prohibited is incindary devices. I think I will stick to the hunter class which is limited to a bipod or bag front rest, and not have to worry about shooting against someone with a five figure package.

Not that I ever have the time to go compete!

An observation- since receiving my new .25, I've noticed the first shot after a fill always comes out "hot". Probably 10-20fps faster than the following shots. This also seems to follow whatever reg settings that I use. Is this common for this reg?

Yes, usually the first shot is lower, but yes, never make the fist shot count. :)

LOL That just answered my second question Ken! gun flip-flopped and started shooting slow on the first shot.

I put my raw30 in a br stock and shot 44's at 100 yds into .3 I posted in another thread in here Ken tuned and sent to me. it shoots really well. I feel it can compete with just about anything. I just need practise.photo is a 5 shot group no wind

Nice shooting! I don't know if I envy the group more or the fact that you had no wind!

Riteclick,

Nice shooting! I hope to shoot a group as nice as that. My Mark Buckanan tuned RAW poly .22 has shot a .05" at 25 meters but I have yet to shoot a 100 yard that nice.

Yeah I agree the RAW .30 is an extremely accurate rifle well beyond most others.

It is funny at the Phoenix Airgun, when I first went to watch, some of the members were in a change from mostly FX Boss for 100 yards to the RAW .30, now you see the shift from the RAW to the Red Wolf HP in .22 in pursuit of higher BC. Sometimes I think some of the members have very very deep pockets. 25 meter has shifted to Thomas in a lot of cases. I am sure it is only a matter of time before someone comes in with a rail gun to shoot 100 meter precision class just to put up new top scores.

It is always in the pursuit of better scores and it shows! they are a very tough crowd to shoot with. All the top equipment is always there, RAW, Red Wolf, Thomas, Nota, SEB Farley, and Randolf. And then you have the other half, that may be shooting a Discovery off of a Caldwell bag or rest. It is an interesting mix.

With scores in 25 meter of mid 740's for your competitors you either shoot for fun or practice all the time.
