OK, after the long wait (ordered @ new release); I received my new RAW HM1000X .25 tuned to 60 fpe two days ago. Has the LW polygon and CFOS moderator in a gray laminate LRT stock and all right hand magazines to clear side parallax scopes. For initial tests, mounted up a Hawke sidewinder 6-24x56mm on UTG medium POI rings which just clears the magazine for a 1.85” scope height. Will be mounting a Vortex Viper Gen II 5-25x50mm mil/mil FFP that I received last month. Specifically bought this gun for long range static hunting/pesting and bench rest. This is not a walk and stalk gun.
Very quick initial thoughts with less than 16 rounds after chrony check and quick zero. 10 round chrony starting at 220bar (fills to 250) averaged 909fps for 62 fpe with JSB MKII. Only tried this pellet so far. In my other guns, the MK II generally fly 9-11 faster than MK 1. Zero at 48 yards. Will try MK 1 later.
Very beautifully crafted from metal to laminates to carbon fiber bits. Build quality and fit and finish 1st class. As set up now with scope and small 2.5” side wheel, rings, bkl bubble level, butler creek caps, atlas AFAR rail on the OEM inletted rail and QD sling studs fore and aft - weighs 12lbs 4 oz and is 45 3/4” long. I have on hand, an extra Plain Walnut Sporter stock or the Walnut thumbhole stock on my .357 RAW that will drop this by a pound for hunting purposes.
Much louder than I was hoping for. Measured at 75 dB with a high pitched (frequency) crack from 10 feet away using C weighted fast response on pro audio class 1 calibrated mic and SPL meter. That is 9-12 dB louder than my Cricket .25 carbine, a Vulcan .25 with an NC moderator, a ER tuned 60fpe FX Bobcat .25 with 4 piece fx mod, a Huggett, or Donny FL Sumo. Also louder than an 80 fpe .30 cal Bobcat with Huggett Magna, or DonnyFL Samurai or Ronin. Although not an exact science in human psychoacoustics, a 10dB increase is generally perceived by humans as twice as loud. The high pitched crack is also at a higher frequency level than the above referenced guns. In short, I would not recommend shooting this gun in your backyard unless you have at least a minimum of 50 yards in between neighbors. My side neighbors are about 20 yards away so I won’t be able to shoot this much at my home range without getting complaints or inquiries. Although legal in my state to shoot Airgun’s in backyard with “appropriate backstop,” I would prefer not to be visited by the LEO.
After zero, I did shoot a couple of rounds spaced over a long period of time in between sessions with other quieter guns. It is easy to operate, very intuitive, light 6 oz two stage trigger. Very easy to shoot accurately. Shot about 12 rounds after zero with hits on metal spinners 1.5 “ at 75 yards, 3/4” at 82 yard, 20mm metal mini spinner at 97 yards, 1.5 inch at 98 yard. 2.25 inch at 122 yards. 1st miss was on 1.5 inch at 122 yards from wind or hasty unrefined zero. Hit on second round.
Early observations. I like it a lot but will have to mostly use it away from home range.
