Is there a video of how to modify (tune) a RAW HM 1000x LRT ? One that will show results and groups at 100yds with pellets and slugs.
There is no real mystery with a raw, it’s just a balance between reg pressure and hammer load. Basically keep adding hammer load and at some point speed will plateau, this is the maximum you will get at that reg pressure. increasing hammer load further will cause power to drop as the valve opens to far, bottoms out and bounces back. To get more speed, you need to increase reg pressure, ideally you need the speed to plateau about 10-20 fps faster than you need, then back the hammer load off a tad.
stack your belville washer like this
()()()()()()() soft spring rate, low reg pressure, easy adjustment to get precise pressure.
(())(())(())(()) medium spring rate, medium reg pressure, more sensitive to adjustment
((()))((())) stiff spring rate, high reg pressure, very sensitive to adjustment
(((())))(((( very stiff spring rate, very high reg pressure, extremely sensitive to adjustment
Fitting more washers increase spring length not rate, more washer make adjustment easier that less washers.
if you are shooting pellets then one of the biggest improvements to accuracy is backing the speed off, Diablo pellets are designed to self stabilise in flight, the spin induced by the rifling is to aid stability as the pellet leaves the barrel before the aerodynamics has a chance too. The problem is, the forward speed decays quicker than rotation spin, the further the pellet travels the more the relative spin rate increases, this causes weird spiral and wobbles on the way to the target. Backing the speed down to the mid 800’s reduces the irregularities flight, accuracy improves. There are pellets that do work at higher speeds, these tend to be heavier and longer, but that take much more air to get to speed, louder too!
A polygonal barrel in a raw is very capable of pushing slug at the speeds required, it’s not difficult to fit a FX liner to a raw if that’s your preference.
