Rat Sniper Slugs

Hi dark1961, I ordered some slugs from ratsniperslugs about 8 or 9 weeks ago. I have been in contact with Mike and he has assured me that my order will be shipping soon. Apparently, he has more orders than he is able to fill in a timely fashion! He has been very good about any response when I have sent him an email and informed me that he is in the process of buying a "machine" that will help with production. I guess my question is how long it took for you to receive your slugs. Also, I asked Mike about using his slugs with a barrel that has a "choke" and he said that his slugs actually work very well in a barrel with choke and are designed for that very purpose. Does your barrel have a choke? I see that you are using .22. My barrel is .25.

I hope I got that right!

This was the response from Mike-The LW barrels have a .254" Groove but the choke exit diameter is .250", which is why my slugs shoot so well out of them.

Thanks!

I received mine very quickly, maybe ten days, so his production problems are probably real. The quality of the slugs seems to be exceptional. My barrel does not have a choke, but I have also purchased .25 slugs for my Hatsan AT44 and they seem to work just as well. Give me a week to to get some definitive accuracy data on the 25's and I'll let you know. I live in the city so I have to go to the gun range to do my testing.

I've been using Nielsen 47gr hollowpoints in my Impact X .30 and they work great. Point of impact at 35 yards was so close to the 50gr JSB that I didn't have to adjust the scope. I did have to back the regulator down from 155 bar to 140 bar to get the same velocity as the pellet. Higher pressure results in less velocity with the slug.

"Higher pressure results in less velocity with the slug"

That seems counter intuitive to me. I was under the impression that higher speeds for slugs was preferable.

The Nielsen 47gr has a hollow base. The only reason I can think of is that the base is being expanded too much at higher pressure. I tried 160 bar and lost 55 fps. Velocity is 875 at 150 bar and 890 at 140 bar. I hope to do more fine tuning soon.

I just installed an EDMU to read regulator pressure and found that my FX gauge was reading at least 19 bar too high. I just ordered another to replace the bottle gauge.

My Stormrider also loves the H&N Rabbit magnums in 22 cal. 1/2 inch at 30 yards! Pushed through a pellet sizer from the U.K.. Measured at 5.46mm with calipers even though the pellet sizer manufacturer says it is 5.50 mm. My calipers are probably less accurate than manufacturing specs. IMHO, a lot of the pictures I see of H&N Rabbit Magnum pellets don't resemble what I'm talking about or what I'm shooting.

Here are some groups from my Rapid Air Weapons HM1000X in .25 cal.

Mine were a bit slow to ship but sometimes you just have to plan ahead. Mike makes a great, clean product that in my opinion is well worth the wait.

These were shot in 8-10 mph winds.

JSB Diabolo MKII 33.95 gr-----averaged 880 fps

Ratsniper 36 gr-----averaged 840 fps

Ratsniper 31.5 gr-----averaged 890 fps

I know you guys aren't into low-end rifles, but my stormrider also loves mrhollowpoint slugs, 22 cal, 30 grain hollow points. I'm talking a hole on a hole at 25 yards! size .216 diameter.

We are not here to debate your choice of guns brother. That is your call. It is great however to hear that you are getting the results that you are looking for.

It’s all about the slugs themselves and how they work in your type of gun, but I’ve never heard of Rat Sniper slugs untill now so I’ll have to look into them being I’m just starting to try different slugs in my new to me Texan 357, so far I have sized .357 116gr mrhollowpoint to try, sized to .358 127and 170gr hunter supply to try and some sized at .357 100 gr to try that came with the Texan and I need to order some NSA .358 slugs to try but not sure what gr to get.I’m going to start at 2900 psi and go down from there if need be.
