Rapid Air Weapons RAW Moderator

I have a 25 RAW which is loud. I took off the moderator today and it contained 2 sections separated by an unvented single baffle. Every diagram I have ever seen online showed 3 sections separated by 2 baffles. What's up? Can I get a 3 piece upgrade and if I could would it make much difference? I'd hate to lose the beautiful eccentric carbon tube! It is loud...

Can you post pictures? I have no idea what it looks like. Maybe a hair curler or 2 wrapped with oil lubed felt material or scotch brite at the end chamber may help quiet it down some. Yo

Exactly, throw up a picture or two ! I've got a few RAWs ,always wondered if there were any options for improvement of moderator. Wondering if anything available for the offset version? I'll be following this thread 👍👍

Not sure if you can add another section or not. I was just looking into the possibilities of adding anything additional to quiet down the offset moderator on the RAW. I didn’t find much info. Southern Air gunner on YouTube has extra sections in his but he ordered it custom that way. On one of his videos he shows it taken apart.

The section attached to the barrel has a setscrew which I didn't have an allen key to hand to fit it so I don't know if it is held on by set screw alone or threaded on and locked by setscrew.

The carbon tube is 34.88mm ID, 38.15 OD nominal, and 264mm long. The bleed holes in the aluminum sections are about 6.3mm (not very precise diameters). The bore of tubes are approx 7.9mm (.31") at the narrowest point and a little bigger mind section.

There is a machined step where the center baffle sits so it does not bind when the pieces are screwed together--you can rotate baffle freely when everything is tight.

If you could imagine another aluminum tube section with a baffle screwed onto the end of what is shown that is what I have seen in diagrams. Don't know if that would mean a shorter barrel, longer tube or much shorter aluminum sections to make everything fit. The bottom piece (closest to breech) that holds the tubes base end is attached with a grub screw and sits on top of the barrel carbon fiber sleeve.

Just saw the video after my post. His silencer looks longer. Could be it just has another internal section and baffle. He claims his is quiet, something I've never heard reported by any other RAW owner. As I look at the unit I'm surprised that the baffles aren't vented or some other way to "reflex" some of the air backwards since there is a fair amount of dead air space between barrel and outer tube. The RAW guns are accurate so I should complain too much but I would think there would be more of an air stripper quality to the design especially just as pellet leaves the barrel. I don't know much about airgun moderators but have some experience with firearm silencers. Firearms have higher pressure, shorter impulse but probably less actual gas volume than a HP airgun. In a firearm you want to spread the release of pressure gradually over longer duration. To use corona virus terminology "flatten the curve". I assume airgun is similar.

Is this what the Air Force RAW is??? Looking at those pics I can't understand the logic to that design set up other than to make the overall length not as long as it should have been in order for it to be effectively quiet. Simply put there's not enough internal volume. Looks like it would have been better with an Edgun style offset baffle system too. Is that outer CF tube is held in place by that small nut at the end I don't see how to improve on it unless the CF is vented near the tapered cone as well as that middle separating baffle vented too. You could still try to wrap some felt around both sections but don't cover the vent holes. You need more internal volume though that's for sure. Longer outer CF tube with the Edgun style baffles while ditching that short threaded vented piece with your end nut to hold it secure. It would be pretty long though. Yo

the one with 3 baffles is the centered old style moderator.... yours is the offset moderator, this one have no baffles at all, call/email ken hicks at spaweapons.com and he can help you for sure!

The one in the video was offset and had 2 baffles/3 sections. Does look like Ken could be the guy. The guns he shows have centered moderators that look almost 2' long.

I agree with the EDGUN type moderator: Instead of round tube off center what is needed is either oval or rectangular for internal volume without ridiculous length or width. Maybe I need a 3D printer after all!
