Ranging with a 16X Vortex Diamondback

The other day I watched a video that suggested using the 8 inch block under a target for ranging. Since the blocks are all the same size it can be used as a standard. And, since the Diamondback is a FFP MOA reticle scope the block height will appear the same requardless of the magnification. Here are the readings I got using the markings above the horizontal line.

Skip, how does it range through the focus?

Here is what i do.

Focus as best as you can. Look at the height of the block. Calculate the MOA height of thr block. For example, if the block height is 18 MOA the distance is 40 yards.

Pretty soon the match directors are gonna wise up and use different varying size blocks one day...YO!

I would be willing to bet that if the ranges were all marked the scores wouldn't change much.

Our club uses blocks for summer matches but not winter matches (two different locations). So a range by stadia/bracketing blocks method could equate to good scores...... half the year. Lol.

Good job Skip! I played around with bracketing some late last season, enough to understand it’s value at 40 plus. I’m planning to work with it more in preparation for the upcoming season. Uj

On an FFP scope it will remain the same regardless of the Magnification.

Questions gents. No hijacking intended but say you don't have a ffp but you do have a 12x moa scope as I do. I don't have 55yds available right now due to the country's situation. So say a cinderblock is 25moa at 25yds does that mean that at 50yds it will be 12.5moa and at 37.5yds it would be 19moa?
