Ranger XR vs Vixen

Long shot indeed! I was hoping @dairyboy, or @douger, would try a Ranger or Atomic as they both have owned Vixens. @redtick12, I tell you this, at the moment my Atomic is my main sub 50 yard pester/plinker. Sending Crosman Premier Domes I am making consistent, first round hits on chewed up black walnut husks from 25 to 50 yards. Easy 25 yard hits with my scope at 3x. I've shot the Atomic out to 60 yards, but would not use it that far on a critter. Maybe on a perfectly posed chipper.🐿 The Vixen is nice, but I don't like the bottle as a stock on any PCP, just my preference. The Vixen probably gets the nod in power...

I also prefer the stock on the Ranger over the bottle stock of the Vixen, but for what I want this gun for if it does have a bottle I don’t want it hanging out front, so the stock works. I definitely prefer the looks of the Brocock, and for what I am looking for for this particular gun I don’t want high power so the Vixen getting the nod in power does not matter to me. But the Vixen does appear to be a light, high quality, capable gun.

Haven't owned a Ranger or Atomic, but have to agree with L.Leon about the bottle as the stock on the Vixen is maybe not the best. Works fine off hand shooting though, or maybe shooting with the front on a bipod in a window frame, etc., but not so well with bipod and bag.

One other little contributing Vixen issue is that you can crack the plastic buttpiece if it is tightly affixed to the bottle at low pressure, and then you fill. Ask me how I know. AoA replaced it under warranty, but now I am kind of gun shy tightening up the buttpiece. Which seems to result in it always being a little loose, hence not working that well for me when shooting off the bench. Not a dealbreaker to me though - I love the gun but I just can't personally compare it to the Brococks for you.

I've had both the Vixen Long and Std. I preferred the power of the Long, as I use it in the open for ground squirrels up to 50 yards. Plus it doubles for me as a nice plinker.

So when I saw that Dairyboy was looking for a Vixen which he could tune down for low power pesting, I ended up selling him my Standard. IIRC from his posts, he had very good luck getting the gun down into the power range he was looking for.

He may not reply to your post since he also doesn't have Ranger experience (that I know of). But you might want to search for his posts, or PM him for more low power tune information on the Vixen Std.

out of stock but appears to be the case. Think at over 800 you will have to pay for import duty.
