OK
Good morning,
I am going to try some N50 with air rifle and rimfire and I'm looking at getting a Randolph front rest or an AR 250 front rest with joystick. I was curious if the AR 250 can cover a whole card at 50 yards? Also every time I go to look at the Randolph front rest it says the website could be being impersonated because their certificate expired and is a risk going to the webpage. Have you guys had that issue? I would like to look at them and get an ideal on price? Thanks
Jon

I use an AR 250 ...no problem covering a card at 50. Know that there is a weight limit for the AR 250 at 15 lbs. This is due to the counter balancing weight. But you can always add more weight.
I love how compact it AR 250 is. Very easy to travel with. The last time i checked, the AR was around 650 + shipping from Indonesia. The prices may have gone up.
I have not used a Randolph...but hear positive reviews.

They are around 800 now shipped or 900 with the adjustable width. Is it stable? I have a phoenix bipod and rear bag setup that I use for f class 22lr and it's very stable

As long as the counter balance is properly set, there is no drift in the joysick ..no play.
I can shoot my .30 Epoch on the rest without any shifts
Wow..they HAVE gone up ...like father like son...lol

i didn't know about an adjustable width!!..sounds better

Yeah the adjustable top plate can go from 1" to 3".860-935 shipped for those

There is no slop in the AR250 stick but if you put your gun on the rest and grab your scope turret and wiggle side to side there is a lot of slop in the head. I was concerned about that with my slug gun because it's probably 5-10x the slop you would experience on a knob type rest.

I built my own joystick rest to fix that "problem " but to be fair I do not shoot higher scores with mine so the head slop on the AR250 doesn't appear to cause problems that show up on the target.

The other thing that concerns me with the AR 250 for world competition is the ears on the front bags extend so far above the rest block that when you put sufficient tension on them to prevent side to side movement, the top of the bags are containing the rifle in a vertical fashion. In the classes that have weight limits like light and heavy rifle, they like to pick your gun up and if the rest moves with it, they will weigh both items and you will be overweight. That really isn't an issue for most disciplines… But could certainly be a problem in world competition.

does the gun stay in place if you do not touch (let go ) of the joy stick ?

Yeah I will just be shooting N50 here locally and was just trying to figure out the front rest options. I like the idea of a joystick but I like a solid rest like when I use my Phoenix in F Class. I was just curious on shooting bench since I've never done it with rest like the Randolph when you go to shoot a sighters and move to shoot for score is it a pain to do? You know with F Class once you start shooting for score you can't go back to sighters so there's not a lot of movement

This is the difference in a Amateur like me giving a review compared to a Pro on the world stage :ROFLMAO:

I have both rests. The Randolph is a heavier more stable rest than the AR250 and a couple hundred dollars more. One can switch tops at a price but on my new Randolph the adjustment controls suck, do not know what happened to their quality control but it's not good paying the price. I also shoot both rimfire and air-rifle and use the AR250. I like the speed, ease and lightness of the rest for transport. The only thing I like on the Randolph is their removable tops. All of my rimfire and air rifles have either 3" plates or forends. If you can find a used Randolph with the top you are referring that would be good. The last 3 new Randolph's I've seen here all had control issues. One would need to take apart and fix.

I appreciate all input like I said I'm just starting in this because what I usually do in PRS competitions and I can't do those anymore because of back issues so I'm trying to find things that is not quite so hard on my back. I just started F Class last month and I didn't think I'd like shooting paper but there's something about it when you get the hold right and you shoot a X at 100 yards and you can repeat it. I know benchrest is a totally different ball game but I want to give it a go with a rifle and rimfire. Just 50 for bench for me. lol

I have always disliked joystick rests and favored knob type.

That has changed. I'm far more likely to take a sighter with the joystick. I'm sure that helps me.

The AR250 is a good rest and it will probably be perfect for your application.

I've never been a fan of the Randolph front rest because you have to move your hand back and forth on each axis to make single plane adjustment. The Randolph one piece does not suffer from this issue. The windage and elevation can be adjusted without moving your hand back and forth and you can make small adjustments simultaneously.

OK good to know I will look at their one piece if the webpage is fine. But it keeps giving me that warning not to go to it because they lost their whatever for their webpage that it could be an imposter trying to steal my personal information.

I have a Randolph rest and the rear adapter plate. Something to think about not all competitions allow for a one piece, some require a front rest and sand bag.
