Having some problems with coons. My gun of choice is .25 cal. Brocock sniper lite with JSB 25.39 gr pellets. I shot one coon in side of the head at 25 yards and it went down right there. Next two coons were shot between the eyes at 25 yards . They flopped around and took off never seen again. Whats up with that?

Most likely the pellet bounced off the slope of the forehead. I've taken more coons with my 15 FPE .22 Benji Trail NP2 than all my other guns together. However, all those shots were from an upstairs window and the POI was middle of head between the ears from 15 yards or less. A shot to the side of between the eye and ear will easily drop them because the skull is thinner there.

Ear shot works well or heart lung for me. I took a few trash can panbldas for a friend at 60 yards cuz they wouldn't let me get any closer. I used 25 cal gauntlet pushing 60 ft lbs with a shot through the ear and the next two hear lung. They rolled over and didnt move again.

Yeah front head shots into the skulls of many animals doesn't work...especially with a gun shooting diablos at what?...820 fps? Heck, I've seen deflections off a squirrel's skull with a 16 fpe airgun. Recommend switching to Predator Polymags. You'll get more velocity and more initial penetration due to the plastic tip. The wound channel is much more devastating too.

Not sure, but I think they would. The Hades would probably expand too fast and flatten out. The Polymag should pierce better. I'm sure other will chime in who have used that exact pellet on coons.

Between the eyes is not a brain shot, it's a little higher up.

they do NOT. i have no idea what danielL is talking about. I dropped 10 raccoons with diablos and polymags richocet off their noggin. diablos penetrate , polymags mushroom easily.
correction - i thought you meant regular diablos. but the hades should still penetrate better than polys.

I took all mine with Metalmags, but as I stated, from above so the shot hit perpendicular to the slope of the skull.

Sorry. My answer was confusing looking back on it. I didn't mean to recommend frontal skull shots with Polymags. You really need a decent angle or gobs of power to guarantee penetration. However, I get much more effective results with Polymags than diablos in good shot conditions.

I found tip-less Polymags in a Wildcat 0.30 to work better than Diablos for headshots on raccoons. I rarely need a follow up shot with the Polymags, even on the bigger raccoons. I’m typically shooting at a little less than 70ft-lbs.
Not sure if my experience applies to 0.25cal. I did have issues using both 0.22 and 0.25 cal Diablos on raccoons; never tried the smaller caliber Polymags.

I've seen a ricochet when a raccoon was shot between the eyes, but he was sitting up looking straight at the shooter. All the others I've seen shot between the eyes died instantly, but most of them were head down, feeding. Angle of shot into the skull is important. Gray matter, matters.

Ed gun r5 superlong .30 smacking them with poly mags at 950 muzzle.
gonna give my brocock hp a go with nsa 20.2 at 900 I’ve never been a fan of head shots it’s the boiler room for me no deflections or flopping or twitching just dead. Not going to debate on what’s more humane both ways expire fast.
How ever my wife shot one with my taipan vet shooting jsb 34s @ 800 about 5ft away tween the eyes just to have it deflect. Pretty nasty gaping wound and snarling. Wife was shaken a lil but quickly dispatched it once it looked away.
