This particular raccoon has been an ongoing problem since the summer. It and its offspring have dismantled and raided my bird feeders since this summer. Tonight I finally this female at about 25lbs in my sights. I tried a few tricks I'd picked up to make her turn to the scope for a good head shot with no luck, and just as I pulled the trigger for a heart and lung she moved causing the shot to graze her side. She moved up higher into my big oak tree, presented me side profile shot of her head, and once again she moved at the last moment causing the shot to pass through her nose. After that she decided to go down to the main fork of the tree, and it was there I managed to get the head shot to end it.
Sufficient to say I botched things tonight, but made sure this raccoon didn't wander off to suffer later on because of my mistakes.
