R7 at distance

Took the little R7 out and sighted the Falcon 7.33grs at 17yds then shot my steel targets at 50yds and 75yds. Nothing earth shattering but really not bad for a 6.5fpe gun.

50yds

elevation 3.7 mils

Wind 1.1 mils Left

75yds

elevation 6.5 mils(6.8 would of been better)

wind 3.0 mils left

then I tried my little 2.5” target at 50yds but only got 8 hits out of 10 shots.

@Teber66 Nice shooting! 8 out of 10 at 50 yards isn’t bad in that sort of wind, at least not to me. I like your Kestrel. Are you using a wind vane as well?

No I don’t use the wind vane with it , though if you were shooting in the same spot throughout the day it would come in handy. I use the Kestrel mostly for my rimfire matches and centerfire. I’ve tried to set it up to use with my pellet guns but so far I can’t get the data to match the actual dope.

@Teber66 I toyed with the idea of going that route with one of their models with an incorporated ballistics program, but from what I read I wasn’t convinced that it would pair well with airguns. And the ballistics program in some of the models I came across seemed dated. Thanks for your input.

What’s your usual target range for shooting the R7?

My Kestrel is the 5700 with AB ballistic program and yes it doesn’t pair well with air guns or at least my springers. Typically 17-25yds is where I’ve shot it the most.

Kestrel updates their ballistic app quite often especially the 5700 but it’s geared more for centerfire and rimfire.

Nice shooting and nothin to sneeze at there :)

Also jealous of your 50, let alone 75 yards...lol. I can manage 45, but that puts me out in front of the house. Last time I tried that, I got a visit from one of the village's finest in blue.
Asked me if I lost my mind shooting a .22LR in the village. After all the explaining, he said he hadn't shot an air rifle since he was a kid and had no idea they'd gotten so nice, so I parked him at my shooting table and let him have at it...lol.

New convert? Not a clue but he was laughing like a kid in a candy store...lol.

I’m pretty lucky, got right at 7 acres and though we’re considered as being in city limits we’re outside of town quite a bit. Here’s a pic from my shooting bench in the barn. If I shoot from the garage the back target is 110yds.

You are rockin' that little rifle in those breezes. Sent the 430L off to John.

Lookin' pretty dry this late in the spring?

At that power level I will certainly take it. I think the vertical spread is a better representation of the accuracy than the horizontal. Just a 5 mph wind at full value could knock a pellet a full inch off course at 25 yards. And that’s with a full power springer. 50 yard with even a light but variable winds calls for a heavy pellet! So that’s pretty good shooting

Way cool! Very impressive. I thought I was the only maniac taking a Hw30 long. I won't shoot for groups with mine past 30 yards, but I love to shoot cans and spinners out to 100yds. Once dialed in, my scoped 30 can consistently hit a beer can at 100yds. Well that's with little or a steady lite breeze. Almost forget it if the wind is shifting or gusting. My peep sighted Hw30 will hit a 3" spinner pretty consistently out to 50 yards. Both are a hoot to shoot.

I like your little electronic tool. If it doesn't have a wind vane, where does it get its data? Many published BCs won't work in ballistic calculators because they are velocity critical and every gun is different. I think the BC model for pellets hasn't been perfected because of the variety of designs.

Recently Sean Gabrell and I set up two chronographs to get the BC on a couple of 20 caliber pellets. Neither was what was published. Next time I'm up at Sean's I'll see if our calculated BC jives with either Chairgun or Strelok Pro.

Nice set up you have there. I'm jealous. I can't shoot a BB gun in my backyard without cops and helicopters.

Take care

Ron

You can use an attached wind vane mounted to a tripod and get constant readings from it but since I mostly just use it for rimfire and center fire matches you point it at your target and get a dof( direction of fire) then point it into the wind and take 45sec-1 min reading and it locks in wind direction and the high and low wind speeds along with all environmentals Then plugs all that in with the ballistic app.

You mention fairly regularly hitting beer cans at 100 with your HW30 and remembered this. There's a member over on GTA who qualified for their N.U.A.H club (Nothing Under a Hundred) with an HW30. Maybe next time Sean comes to play, you 2 can set up the targets instead of beer cans and try yourselves??

On a calm day I might be able to hit a beer can at 100yds with my HW30 but it would have to be a tall boy 😁
