Yesterday I found a San Rafael R1 in pretty good shape. It shoots and groups great at 15 yards. Paid a good price at $450.00. Did I get a good deal?

I recently bought two of these in separate transactions. The first I gave $450 for, needed a breach seal and a rebuild as it was very dry inside. Stock and action in very good shape for being 30 or so years old. The second, I gave $350. It has a few more handling marks, but still in pretty good shape for its age. I have yet to rebuild it, but it needs it as it feels dry and has a sticky safety. I think you made a fair deal. The R1 is my favorite rifle, especially in the Goudy stock. I hope you enjoy it.
