Purchased an R 1 .22 cal pre owned & I love this rifle. Massive in size but very accurate & smooth. I don’t know what the previous owner had done to it, but performance is great. Added a Hawk 4-12 airmax scope which I have on my other Weihrauch Rifles / R9 & HW 35. I now need a HW 97 as the posts on this rifle are very good.

Any suggested improvements that I can make to the R 1?

Harves

Mike is correct. Pellets are a big deal. They are certainly a huge part of the equation .However, the trigger is the best way to improve accuracy on the R1 mechanics. The HW Rekord trigger is noted for its excellence.

Also, the screws can vibrate loose on the R1. A regular check should be fine Same with the scope rings. They can slide back.

Lastly, be careful of the cocking shoe. These tend to break if you pull too hard. I'd keep a spare. Buy the heavy duty one. Lol

Aside from that , enjoy the rifle. I'm a big R1 fan/owner (of 2) and have yet to shoot one that wasn't a laser! The .22 vesion suits the power plant better...IMO. Best of luck with yours!

Dude get yourself some 5.53 & 5.54 ftt and have at it

Currently shooting H& N field target pellets with laser results. Also shoots the crossman & JSB’s well but, the H&N are the best.

Sounds about right. I've tried JSB 14.3, 15.89, and 18's, as well as the H&N Baracudas, and none of them do as well as the FTT 5.53's in either of my R1's.

I love low-mid power springers, but sometimes a big old magnum like the R1 is the order of the day. Sure an HW95 is lighter and can make almost as much power...almost. And not as effortlessly. It's a big, beautiful gun - enjoy! And how about a picture!

So, after all the R1 talk, I had to take one out. Santa Rosa R1k Laser. Changed it to a Vortek courtesy of John Thomas in PA. Clocked it at 1067 fps with 7.4s. Lives up to its name!

They sure don't make em like they used to.

I did not even notice till you mentioned it that you stock does NOT cover the block. Yes the MKII & III have thicker stocks and ambi that I am not a fan of but I got it for a song and fits with my collection. I thought that was a standard of all R1's to cover the breech block!? I don't know of another R1 that does not... (top 2 are double left side stamped)

Harves; the Lasers are quite different from the standard R1 in their performance, stock and even propulsion system. The MKI Laser is the redish, straight laminate stock and comes that way from Beeman. The spring, guides, seals and even lubricant were changed for higher performance. The MKII Laser has a lighter laminate, ambidextrous stock but same performance which is a 100-200fps claimed increase in velocity pending caliber and individual rifle. There is also a Laserized R1 right above the MKI which is a tuned R1 by Beeman but in the standard stock. Each Laser rifle can be seen with a small enameled button fitted above the trigger area on the left side. Laserized kits could be purchased and installed by the user or tuner but would not have the enameled button present. There was also a MKIII which has the same stock as the MKII but a gas ram was used instead of the steel coil mainspring which every other R1 has/had. The Laser option is long discontinued. All the R1's in my photo are factory stocks, none are custom.
