Quieting down a .30 FX Impact

Hey Guys and Gals!

I am gearing up for a hunt with the Vets and picked up another .30 Impact to take along....

It is 700mm and am wanting to hush it up as much as possible....I ordered the .30 Huggett dedicated shroud from Utah today and have a whole mess of moderators to try but was wondering if anyone has a recommendation?

I have a DonnyFL Ronin on it now and works fairly well but was curious what other folks are using and the results....

I am NOT a fan of the diameter of the Ronin at all....

I have had 2 Ronin sold them both it weight to much..n they don't work at all compared to the shogun..I use the shogun in my 308 texan it works so well that I could tune it inside my all concrete shop without my ears hunting..n is shooting 140g at 980fps..without it I couldn't stand 2 shoots..I used the shogun in the 257 to..

My hatsan Hercules Bully in 30 cal overpowers my Shogun. Even after dropping the velocity from the factory speeds of 1075 FPS to 885 FPS, its still too loud. I had to get rid of that felt wrap around the inner core and resort to neoprene wrap, and it helped some. I’m still on the lookout for a better method.

I am also on a quest to find the best moderator to quiet my impact .25 down i have tried the sumo, a neil clauge, a weihrauch, 0db, and your magna and all but the 0db were very close so for the size the sumo took the spot for now, I picked up a ronin to see how it does but I too am curious how that dedicated shroud does please keep me posted what you think, the huggett astille looks promising as well.

Brawler...The Astille is not that great. I have one with two additional baffle stacks and it is no quieter than the Mini Magna or Ronin....I ordered a Shogun as well as an extension for the Ronin today along with the Huggett dedicated shroud so we shall see if any if those do any better.

I have heard good things about the dedicated shroud so have high hopes!!

What else did you compare it to I was expecting a huge difference being that it was their largest but it was only about 1db and that wasn't worth the extra length and weight still trying to find the best combo.

I tried the Magna....Not that much of a difference to justify the weight compared to the others...

Yeah I have seen his Impact shrouds before and a company in Europe makes one as well....Air-fective I believe is the name....Might order one to try depending on how well the ones I have coming do!

I had the NC moderator/shroud combo on my .30 cal Impact, did not help at all. I had the regulator set at 150, maybe that had something to do with it.

I find the 0dB silencers work very well, almost as good as the DonnyFL Shogun with a LOT LESS weight and much shorter.

Its crazy gun to gun I actually found the 0db to be the loudest of all the ones I tested.

You have tried a lot of mods on your other rifles, so you probably know that many of them don’t make big differences and which ones have worked marginally better. Seeing how much lighter weight mods shifted the POI down, I was never willing to try the Ronin with its heavy weight to it.

Of the 5 or so that I tried, they were VERY close and the Snipe may have had a tiny edge on the others. I actually ended up just sticking with the FX baffles, because I didn’t think the others did enough to warrant the cost. Tried a Snipe, STO, Neil Clague, baffles, and I think the Donny I finally tried was a Sumo.

Yeah, it can be pretty strange. I have 2 0dB silencers, a Hugget Belita (which appears to be identical to the 0dB), a DonnyFL Shogun (.30) and a DonnyFL FX. The 0dB silencers are a little (barely noticeable 3dB) louder than the Shogun, and equally quieter then the DonnyFL FX silencer. The standard FX hollow moderators are the worst of the bunch, although to be clear, they do work and are a lot better than the unmoderated guns (Impact, 2 Crowns, Wildcat and a Dreamline). Only the Dreamline Tactical, currently in .177, still has on a FX moderator/silencer.
