Quietest pellet for 177 Marauder

im new to air guns and just bought a Marauder, pump, scope, and a bunch of various pellets. I’m looking for info on the quietest pellet in 177 since I have neighbors close by. Will the heavier pellets tend to be more quiet than lighter pellets due to lower speed?

any particular weight or make i should stick to? I’m about to make another order from Pyramid but wanted to check here for advice first.

thanks in advance for any help.

It won't matter with the Marauder. It is already a very quiet gun from the factory. If it's too loud with the shroud and baffles then most any shrouded/silenced airgun will be too loud. More than likely the noise you hear when shooting is the hammer hitting the valve open, and the pellet hitting the target. Have you had the chance to hear it with someone else shooting?

I agree the Marauder really can't get much quieter. I also agree the lower the velocity you have it set for the quieter it will be. Since you have neighbors close by I assume you have limited room to shoot. If that assumption is correct use a lightweight pellet (around 8 grains) and tune the rifle to shoot around 800fps or a little less. That should make it about as quiet as it gets and give you more shots to boot. I guess I am saying tune it to be a 10-12fpe rifle.

I plan on having my wife take a few shots while I’m in the front yard to see how loud it really is. It’s a pretty quite gun, I was just curious if there was a general consensus or “rule of thumb” on loudness and pellet weight.

I’ve been involved in 3-gun and long range shooting for years, but that’s mostly been with actual suppressors and hand loaded rounds....so my experience in that area doesn’t exactly translate perfectly.

I’m open to any advice from folks with air gun experience.

From personal experience with the Marauders, if you are shooting it with factory settings, it can be much quieter. If you can get access to a chrono, check to see where it is shooting. My guess from the factory, the 177 will be shooting 930's to 950's or so. And, you will be getting maybe 40-45 shots before you need to refill.. that can be changed very easily by just backing off on the hammer spring tension about one full turn (ccw). Get the velocity down to 895-905 or so. It will be very accurate and half as loud. And you will see that you get about 90 shots per fill instead of 40-45.

Great advice y’all! I just got the gun sighted in which only took 7 shots. I tried several pellets afterwards and found these to be pretty quiet and accurate JSB Diabolo Exact Heavy .177 Cal, 10.34 Grains, Domed
ill be tinkering all week....I’m loving this thing! Plus I’m a little chunky right now so that damn pump is giving me a workout.

I can't see the pellet making much of a difference in the sound? It depends on the tune of the gun also. Too much air for the lenght of your barrel and the shot will be louder. The shtoud can accomodate a certain amount of air volume. This is the limiting factor in sound suppression.
Like stated before the lower power the quiter the shot. This is due to less air and the shrouds ability to handle that volume.

"Hookster"If you don't change your tune and go with heavier pellet it will be quiter, same way to get to your speed comment toku. Some people don't tweak their guns all the time. So my point was going from a lighter 7.9 going faster than a 10.5 with no adjusting equals less bark. 6 to one half a dozen another. Same result.
Exactly.
