Here is the formula: Speed X Speed X Weight / 450,240
So for the example you gave it is 850 X 850 X 14.3 / 450,240 = 22.95 like Wager said. To really get technical the acceleration of gravity is around 32 fps, there are 7000 grains in a pound and the 450,240 number is the product of 2 times the acceleration of gravity times 7000.

Not sure how to put velocity squared in a forum. It is kenetic energy is equal to one half mass times velocity squared. Velocity in feet per second, Convert the grains to pounds then mass (as Olevey did above), for ft/lbs of energy.
