Question on Huma reg high vs extra high

I order the Huma reg high version, it says 80 to 150 bar. My question is what's the difference between the high and extra high, 145-190 bar? I heard it's just the same reg, is it not? Can I increase my Huma reg up to 160-170 bar? Max I would go is 170. Or do I need the extra high reg? Is the washers thicker on the extra high? Only thing I can find about it is, they are stack different. So can I stack my reg to same stacking at the extra high reg to get 160-170 bars or is that a no no? If they have different washer. Where can I get a set of extra high washer without the reg body?

The 80-150 will not go that high without some changes

Yes, the extra high has all thick washers the high has thick and thin washers.

Only thing I can find about it is, they are stack different. So can I stack my reg to same stacking at the extra high reg to get 160-170 bars or is that a no no?

The Huma you ordered will likely not get to 160-170 the adjustment screw on my Huma high reg reached about 155 when it was flush with the reg body which is max.

If they have different washer. Where can I get a set of extra high washer without the reg body?

I am pretty sure you can get them from Huma



My instruction sheet from Huma said on gen 1 Impacts if the pressure was not high enough one could add a set of the FX washers to the bottom, that's just under the head, of the piston. That is in addition to all of the Huma washers so you will have two extra on the piston. I have a gen 2 but did it anyway and found that I have a thread plus left from 150-155bar. So expect it will hit at least 160 and likely 170.

Someone, here on the forum, said that the extra high will go far below the 145bar Huma states.

I can't help but be curious about a regulator setting that high?

1) Are you trying out a large caliber gun?

2) Are you shooting very long range?

3) Does your pcp have a carbon fiber 4.5K air cylinder?

4) Do you own your own compressor, or have access to a high pressure air fill source?



I don't mean to be nosey, critical, or just plain dumb, but I am a curious person, and since a LOT of pcp's have 200 bar capacity, a lot of shooters keep the velocities at 850-950 fps, or about a max of 140 bar, for noise abatement/shot count/consistent point of impact, I cannot help but wonder why you would set your regulator at 170 bar/725 psi, per shot?

A learning moment for me, and perhaps useful information for other less informed forum members.

I forgot to mention my gun. It is an fx impact x. I'm not trying out larger cal. I'm trying out slugs and want to shoot them as fast as I can. Since I hear slug only good when you shoot them fast. My impact is a .25 cal. Yes I want to shoot long distance. Like 100 to 200 yards. I see people posting their shots at these yards with slugs. That's my goal. I have my own compressor the hatsan lightning. Someone said I can used 2 of the fx washer to get more pressure? Instead of buying new washers from Huma and waiting 3 weeks for them since I live in the USA. Can I just use the washers from my fx stock reg with the Huma washers to get higher pressure? And how many of the fx washer can i add before there is too many washers. Right now there is 12 washer on my Huma reg. It came with 12.

I have shot the .25 slugs from my Impact at 100 yards sub-MOA at 740fps so the idea that you have to shoot them fast is false. They keyholed at 150 yards at that range at that velocity though so you want to shoot them a little faster if you want to get to 200 yards. Lately I have been plinking paint cans at 200 yards with my .25 shooting slugs at just under 920fps. You get the best BC on these slugs when you shoot them in the low 900s. Your shot count at 160-170bar will suffer.

I’ve shot slugs and pellets accurately to 300 yards on 112 bar. 23.75” barrel Ed. I shoot JSB 18.13 & 22.14 Kodiaks with a Marauder that’s stock & not maxed out to 200 yards. 

I don’t know what FX Impact or what mods were done but a power increase was noted at 2200psi & plenum extension. 

Now take a 36” barrel same caliber external reg step down to 1200psi and it’s almost 2x’s the fpe. 

Most people don’t want long guns anymore. I was actually super excited about The Raptor but pretty much same problem I had with another gun. Tensioned barrel that’s dependent on air reservoir barrel shroud band. To add a longer barrel and remove tensioning system is to ask for a gun that won’t hold a group when designed to be tensioned.

Just for example. My dream gun. A cross between a Sumo Rapid style mono block made long ago by Chip Smith. A cross of barrel to receiver strength like a Thomas BR. A single shot bolt action built like a tank like on older EDgun or Rapid. A thick (0.750”-1”) barrel in any length, caliber, twist I want. I have a FX Elite and the fast barrel change is ok, I like the flow though bolt, but I’d much rather have any barrel threaded in like my BSA Ultra/Scorpion hybrid. 

The reason is we’re starting to ask a lot and wonder why some don’t do well with slugs or heavy pellets. I believe for most barrels at 16mm free floated 60fpe is about where your gonna keep great accuracy. I mean look at everyone buying TJ liners for Texan. It’s better but it’s not a $700.00 36” 1” bbl from PAC-NOR, Bartlein, etc. that’s won competitions.

As far as regs go for me fine if internal and all I want is pellets at 45fpe or less. If I’m going for BR long range accuracy I personally want a step down in-line reg. If my State says green light on big game then no reg and shots at 100 would be considered far for this area. 

Biohazardman answered everything you want to know very well. I just want you to know massive air flow isn’t the only way. A sturdy build, consistency and an efficient longer barrel are another. And when I shoot pellets at 200 yards from a Marauder it’s 10-12’ of drop and it’s about me reading wind & learning. Huma is a good reg. I don’t think you need the Extra Uber High one.
