Question on filling small SCBA tank

Greetings Everyone!

I recently purchased an Umarex Zelos, .22 cal and a CS4-I Portable PCP Air Compressor, 350W for my 18-year-old grandson. My question is, can that compressor fill up small SCBA tanks?

I stopped by a couple of local SCUBA shops and they did not appear to be interested in fill up small tanks.

I would like to also buy a small SCBA tank so we can take it with us when we are in the field.

Lastly, does anyone have suggestions on what small tank I should buy? I understand the size of the tank will determine the amount of fills I can get but really looking for something I can hopefully fill myself with the CS4-I Portable PCP Air Compressor, 350W.

Thanks in advance for any direction and advice!

GX-CS recently amended advertising to reflect GX-CS4 is NOT for filling 6.8L, or higher, tanks. GX-CS5, single or twin cylinder, is recommended for 6.8L and higher. No doubt some GX-CS4 owners are still filling 6.8L, or larger, tanks, as they did before GX-CS announced the change, your choice, how you wish to proceed. WM

Do you have a source for this? I'm looking on their website and both the CS4 and CS4-I pump say this, "The excellent cooling can achieve 5 hours of continuous work and can fill a maximum 6.8L gas cylinder."

If you can show where they're saying to not fill 6.8L tanks I'd be interested.

I have a CS4-i compressor that I use to "top off" 9 liter tanks.

I recently purchased a Tuxing 3 liter tank and used to the CS4-i to fill the tank from empty to 4500 psi in three steps allowing the compressor to cool down between steps. For all practical purposes, this was no harder on the compressor than topping off a 9 liter tank from say 3000 psi to 4500 psi.

The 3 liter Tuxing tank and valve was an excellent purchase at $206.00. It's small, light and easy to handle. I'm getting up in years and carrying a 9 liter tank to the range is getting to be a real challenge.

A three liter tank at 4500 psi is good enough for lower power rifles but is not sufficient for higher fpe rifles. That said, I'd rather carry two 3 liter tanks than one 6.8 or 9 liter tank.

"15% Faster Filling Speed: Filling 0.5L tank from 3000Psi to 4500psi ,only needs 4-5 minutes. Filling 0.5L from 0-4500psi, only needs 14-16 minutes. but filling 6.8L bottle from 0-4500psi ,will need 2 hours and 40 minutes . Notice: CS4 and CS4-I are mainly used for high pressure, small gas cylinders below 6.8L, especially PCP. It is not recommended to fill large gas cylinders. Otherwise, you can choose 5K1 and 5K2."

Meeehhhh I'm just gonna go ahead and continue to use it for my 6.8L tank.

That's your right as an owner. OP wanted information on tank size and the GX-CS4 so figured this notice from the manufacturer might be useful. WM

A gulf bag three wheel hand cart should make it easy ?

I tied that. I still had to carry the 9 liter tank back and forth from my truck. And, I had to load and unload the golf bag cart from the truck and attach and detach the tank. All-in-all, it was more work and effort to use the cart than it was to just carry the tank.

Filling a 6.8 liter from 3000 to 300 bar is a lot different from filling it from zero. Funny how the same compressor is less capable now that there is a CS5. But no doubt the CS5 would be less stressed with filling fairly large to large tanks. Run time limit may be a better way to manage compressor duty cycle than tank size since the same tank can be filled from many different starting pressures.

I checked the amazon description and it still refers to 5 hours maximum run time with an estimate of less than 3 to fill a 6.8 liter. Those statements are not consistent with the comment to use a CS5 to fill a 6.8 liter. The comment is also a "it is not recommended" comment not a "you void your warranty if you do this".
