Question for the experts

Jason,

You probably can do with the same valve, but it wouldn't hurt to take it apart and clean it. Also, if you want to make it a little more efficient and consistent, you could replace the stock valve spring with a lighter one. In doing this, keep in mind that you will have to retune it, and those o rings that were installed as a hammer bounce reducer might not work as well, or not at all, hindering the tuning process.

Tom, where’s the best place to get all the orings and the spring you refer to..I have no problem removing the buffer mod and will most likely start from scratch on tuning any way. I tried the website that kkarmical linked but can’t get any of the part numbers to work...Amazon has a kit for 13$ By captain oring but even with my prime membership says Tuesday delivery.

With that you're going to have that Mrod shooting accurately in no time.

At the oringstore you do have to individually look up the orings, takes a little time, but for the price of one captain oring set, you'll have enough orings for years to come.

Jason,

I wouldn't experiment with the Amazon kit, or Harbor Freight o ring kits. The rubber is inferior, and you can actually see a seam on the sealing surface. I would try the O Ring store again, as suggested. Or you can spend a few dollars and get the entire set from Archer Airguns or direct from Crosman. Specify a .22, because inside the barrel has a different size oring than other size barrels.

As for springs, I take the original, and go to a good hardware store with a good spring selection. I'll get all kinds of springs, softer as well as harder, and several of each. This will allow me to cut and stretch springs, and keep the original in tact. It might be a good thing to put a little paint of a bright color on the original, so it doesn't get mixed up with the newly purchased ones. Also, when spring shopping, bring the end cap along with the hammer spring screw installed, along with the hammer. This will insure that the spring fits correctly in each. You don't want it too loose to get bent upon compression, and you don't want it too tight to bind.

Do not use any type of grease or other lubricant for gun O rings. At high pressure O ring deforms to fill area and with grease it can’t work properly.

Do not compere it to hand pump. Most of the O rings on a hand pump works in low pressure and those that work in high pressure replace regularly and small leaking is not important there.

Going to have to disagree with you on this. Using orings not lubed is just asking for leaks, no matter how dense the oring.

Silicon greese like Trident is good, but Dow High Vacuum grease, it's made for just that, to perform under pressures.

I’v never saw that vacuum grease. I used normal molycote silicone grease and found O ring failure and leaking with it.

Ok had some time to fire some shots today..here is the first string.

if I delete last 5 shots. I get ES of 24 and SD of 6.5. Not terrible considering it’s all new guts and barrel and none have probably settled in yet. Shooting at 15 yards in doors and accuracy was mediocre at best. Thoughts??
