Question for Flashpup owners

How is the cocking on your gun?

I just picked up a Flashpup from PA for a family member. I take it out of box and it will hardly cock. Sounds like they put some rocks in with the bolt/hammer. I've only bought 2 other guns new (Taipan and a QB ) and neither was anything like this. Even the QB at $79 was much smoother. None of the used gun I have purchased have been like this. The only gun I can compare would be a 2240 that I added a breech riser to which caused the hammer to dig into the tube. Unless I give it a quick yank with my thumb braced on the cheek piece it won't fully cock. If this gun were for me I would take it apart and polish everything up, but I'm not even sure my brothers hand is big enough to be able to reach the cheek piece while holding the bolt. As is this bolt is totally unacceptable.

I had read complaints about the bolt being hard, but lots of guys say the MRod is hard but I had no issue with the one I had. I watched Steve's AEAC video (which was the reason for picking this lower cost gun when I didn't win it) and this gun cocks NOTHING like the one he has. Makes me think the gun Steve was provided for his video was not off the shelf.

I've already submitted for a RMA# and indicated I wanted a refund because I don't want to get another like this. But I really like the weight, look and feel of this gun for him.

Should I get the $$ back and get another gun? Or try another model, that the question for me.

So was your gun smooth? Did it get smoother AND easier with use?

I actually just sold one to a member and the action was not too bad. I also have a Taipan Veteran and the two don't even compare, the Taipan is very smooth. I would try another one because for the money the Flashpup is a great rifle.

What did you think of the action noise between the two. This is my first Bullpup and I didn’t care for all the racket under my ear. I did take the cheek riser off though and that helped a bit.

As for cocking mine is not too bad either, yours sounds a bit worse than mine. I wonder if the power is up pretty high making the hammer spring quite compressed.

I was thinking this might be part of the issue, but I didn't want to shoot it and then they tell me I can't return as "new". I haven't shot it.

Edit to add - I actually think I have a bruise inside my finger when I woke up this morning from pulling it a bunch of times.

I just bought one from a forum member here. The cocking is very stiff compared to other high end pups. But, this isn't a high end pup. This is an entry level pup that has some nice features. If I put my thumb behind cheek piece and pull back with one finger it isn't too bad. Plus the lever doesn't have to move much to reset hammer. I don't have much racket going on by my ear. After adjust the trigger and HST. Its a laser with 16gr. I have it set starting at 888fps-935fps for 40 shots per fill. It only uses 50bar of air. It would be an easy pump pup with the small air cylinder.

I bought a flash QE (carbine) while my main gun (Kral bullpup) was away for a tune up. The action on the carbine is much tougher than my main gun. It is not on the edge of impossible, but it is notably different as it is a straight pull rather than a side lever.

Side note, fit of the magazine is my biggest gripe with the Hatsan. I had to shim high profile rings to get to fit the magazine under a 1" scope, and the magazine fit is sloppy compared to my Mrod, Prod and Kral guns. It does not affect accuracy.

I don't expect it to match the Taipan, but I think it should be better then the QB in stock form. I did get my QB to be one of my smoothest cocking bolt guns. Smoother then the BSA Ultra and Compatto I had.

I really want to open it up and see exactly what is causing it, but don't want to based on their "return" policy and what it says. If I can get it close to what I made my QB I would say to heck with the return. Has anyone tried polishing the internals? and how much did it help?

I returned my Flash Pup for the same reason you are describing, plus the scope rail was off level. I exchanged the Flash Pup for Kral Puncher Breaker and more money, which cocks smooth as butter. I think the barrel in the Flash Pup was better because the Puncher Breaker is pellet picky.

Charlie,

Just handed it to my wife and as hard as she tries she cannot cock it. Guess he's going to have to spend a bit more. The Flashpup just "seems" to offer so much. A 20-40fpe gun under 7 lbs with 3 mags, LDC and a pump for under $400. Plus it look and feels good. Guess something has to give at that price.

Not sure Kral has their side lever or valve stem issues worked out though.
