Question about YH amp load

I'm finally going to get a compressor. I've been holding off because I don't really need a third job (compressor maintenance man) but I keep running out of air at inconvenient times and hand pumping has taken years off my life the last couple of weeks.

I keep waffling back and forth between a Yong Heung or a Xisico CS3. I'm trying to lean towards the YH from Walmart with the warranty, but I think I found a possible issue. The place where I would be using it is on my back porch. My back porch outlet is on the same circuit as the front porch and garage (pretty standard for most modern houses). The problem is, I have a full sized fridge plugged in to the circuit in the garage.

My question is, would I need to unplug the fridge every time I want to run the compressor? That would be a non-starter for me.

Let me know what you think, please and thanks.

Yes the YH needs a dedicated 15A line. Still it is a much better compressor than any of the inexpensive air cooled units and better than pretty much anything under $1000. Your air cooled no water no oil units require a rebuild or replacement at 20 hours if they make it that long. So unless you need to use that 12V you might give this some thought.

Thanks, Ed. That's what I suspected. Since I'm only really needing to fill guns, not a scuba tank, I think I might go with the 12 volt air cooled system.

Just curious

Is your electric garage door opener on the same circuit as the fridge and back & front porch?

The reason I ask is that if the door opener is separate from the others, you possibly could pull power from that circuit for the fridge or the YH

I'm a home inspector, so replacing a 15 amp breaker with a 20 amp breaker without increasing the wire size would keep me up at night.

I'm sure that the YH is a better unit than the air cooled units, but filling up a bucket of water and making a sacrifice to the chicken gods of air and wind seems like a hassle every time I want to top off a gun, especially if I have to sneak an extension cord to the neighbors house.

I could take one for the team and pony up $530 for the Umarex ReadyAir that is supposed to start shipping tomorrow and comes with a 3 year (limited) warranty. Then I could get that sweet guinea pig street cred.

Be careful, acquired sweet street cred comes with responsibilities lol! Anyhoo...for the $530 you would spend on the street cred Umarex, you could probably get the YH compressor plus a used SCBA or perhaps a used guppy size bottle. I think those two items together would peg your street cred meter way beyond any Umarex come lately. With that kind of cred oozing from your pores your neighbors would beg you to use their 110 outlets.

Well, I just checked the actual garage breaker and its a 20 amp. So now I'm back to square 1. Looks like I'll probably just go with the YH. Looks like it's $60 more at Walmart and takes 10 days to arrive, but I guess being able to buy the extended warranty makes it worth it. Plus I don't want Odoyle coming on here and yelling at me for not getting the extended Walmart warranty. I suspect that he get's a kick back for every Walmart protection plan sold.

May I suggest that you read the fine print on the protection plan before purchase

Some of them (not an indictment of Walmart) are pretty limited in what they cover.

About ODoyle

There is rumor that he IS the protection plan

He comes to your house, looks at the compressor, & tells you all the ways you have voided the warranty.

Compressor arrived before lunch this morning. Went out and did some family stuff, then looked all over town for some oil on Christmas eve. I wound up getting the Porter Cable synthetic compressor oil at Tractor Supply instead of the hydraulic oil after doing some studying. Got home and hooked everything up. Wasn't getting good pressure using the little white seal in the discharge nipple, so I went with teflon tape instead. Then I sat there and gleefully filled up 4 guns and two bottles. The compressor can be run in the house noise-wise, but I'll probably use it mostly outside. I just didn't want to irritate the neighbors at 9pm on Christmas Eve.

And it ran fine on a 15 amp house circuit that doesn't have any real load on it. After thinking about my original question (can I run on a 20 amp circuit that has a refrigerator on it?), I got to thinking about the fact that I have run my big low pressure compressor, leaf blower, electric lawn mower etc on this circuit and never tripped the breaker.

When I first fired it up without hooking the foster to anything I was feeling some moisture from the discharge. I let it run for a few minutes and replaced the filter. After 30 minutes of non-continuous use the filter was bone dry. When filling up my tanks (which are not very big) I bled both sides a couple of times.

So, all in all, if you are on the fence like I was, go ahead and jump. The only downside is dumping a big bucket of water every time you fill stuff.

I truly appreciate all of the videos and posts people have made on setting up the YH. If I had to rely on the manual, I would still be sitting on the floor scratching my head. As it is, the only thing I looked at in the manual was the diagram showing which nipple was the water intake.
