FX Putting QC, (quick change), studs in the FX King GRS stock.

If you want to carry your FX King in the field, one way is using a sling. QC studs will have to be installed in the stock. Because the forend of the gun is so short the gun will be carried with the barrel down. The rear butt pad mechanism of the GRS stock extends into the stock 2 inches. Below, is a pic of the mechanism. When installing the stud in the forend it's best to use the machine screw with the nut. The thickness of the wood on both of my guns where the stud is to be installed is .550 inches. The thickness of the nut is .210-.220''. Leaving plenty of wood to hold the stud. The rear stud just needs to be centered as shown in the pics. When drilling the hole for the screw stud the factory uses a .188'' drill bit, not the normal 5/32, (.156''). The reason for this is that these stocks are laminated and there is little give. They will crack before they give much. Think carbon fiber or glass. Both are very strong, but they don't flex a lot before they break. If a .156 hole is drilled in the forend of the stock there is an excellent chance the end will crack. There's just not a lot of solid wood around the hole. Hope this helps somebody that may want to put QC studs in their King.
