Put the HPA tank on the Sig today

This little gun is a riot. Fun as heck to walk a soda can from 6 to 12 yds as fast as you can pull the trigger!

For those of you that aren't familiar, I won this on Christmas eve drawing via Shooter1721's facebook page. It was donated by Airgun Depot for the drawing and I was the lucky name pulled from the hat.

It came with two 90 gram Co2 cartridges and I used the tin of JSB 8.4 gr pellets that came with the gun to check my velocity with the Co2.

I was averaging close to 400 fps with Co2, but the velocity dropped with the high pressure air for some reason? I only avg about 350 fps now, but heck I can live with that since I don't have to buy Co2 cartridges anymore.

Also I don't use the rubber but plate that came with the HPA conversion kit. I can steady the gun with the bare bottle resting high on my shoulder and my cheek locking it into my shoulder.

Knowing what I know now, I wish I had ordered an extra magazine when I ordered the HPA conversion. You see, there's only one belt that comes with the magazine and the gun, but if you buy an extra magazine you get 3 belts with it. I'll be sure and order another mag on my next order!

Also there's a little tool, or you can just use the end of an allen wrench. But the pellets need to be seated into the belt really good and you shouldn't have any misfires that way.

Thanks Dixie. I'll be keeping my eye on Sig Sauer from now on. This little pup seems really well made. Actually overkill for it's low power?

Most of my .177 rifles are up there close to 20 foot pounds, and here I am having a blast with just 2 to 3 foot pounds of energy. It was walking the aluminum soda can across the yard as fast as I could pull the trigger, but it won't even put a hole in tin soup can! LOL

Likely the regulator pressure is higher then the CO2. This causes the valve to be harder to open (with the same spring).

You can get the velocity back in one of two ways. First way is to increase the hammer spring. Not sure if this can be done on the Sig. Other way is to lower the regulator pressure. This can be as simple as degassing and removing a shim from the reg.

If you keep shooting the gun (over the chrony) till the pressure is down to the regulator set point you should see that the velocity will increase as you go below the regulated pressure.

Bigtinboat Thanks for that handy bit of info brother! I might look into removing a shim later on. My problem is I got too many guns to shoot already and got another one on the way next week! The addiction is bad with this one! LOL

I've been googling and searching to no avail. Can you lead me to a link and or video on changing out a shim on that Air Venturi bottle/regulator of mine?

I need something like Regulators for dummies? LOL I was trying to find something where I could study the process so as not to screw things up? I'd screw up a soup sandwich if you get my drift! LOL

I've been trying to study these bottles and regulators so I can give what BigTinBoat recommended on my regulator a go.

In my searches I see the Umarex bottles that fit the Gauntlet are regulated to 800 psi from the factory? Not sure if they really come that low?

My Air Venturi bottle is supposed to be regulated for 1100 psi? Would be cool if a Umarex bottle would fit and I could just swap with someone?

The specs on it say 575 max velocity with the Co2 and we know how over rated velocities can be on air guns?

But just for giggles I searched for info on the Sig Sauer pellets. It seems the lightest pellet they make is a 5.25 gr Ballistic alloy Wadcutter /500 count tin for only $34.95 a tin????? Yeah right!!! Like I'm gonna buy those!

So I plugged the 5.25 grains and the 575 fps for 3.86 FPE. In reality, I was getting closer to 3.0 FPE with Co2 using a 8.4 gr pellet at 400 fps . So that puts me pretty far off their claim with Co2. And even worse with High pressure air.

I also noted the MPX has an 8" barrel

So, that prompted me to look at the Sig Sauer MCX. It has a 17.7" inch barrel and touts 700 fps.

If I used the same 5.25 gr Sig pellet as above we're looking 5.7 FPE. That makes me think I'll get about 4.4 FPE with the MCX in reality? So if this holds true, then I'm looking at 3.4 FPE in reality with the high pressure air tank I have.

Would love to hear from anyone who has either one of these guns and has run them across a Chrony. Especially with the HPA conversion!

Those regs Umarex, Ninja, Crossfire all have the same output threads. As long as the physical size of the bottle will fit they will all work.

Your reg might have a spring as in your video or it may have a belleville stack as in the below video. For minor pressure adjustments you only need to bother with the shims (the flat washers) and not the spring nor the bellevilles. If your reg is set at 1100 it most likely has the bellevilles as well as a shim or 2. Notice in the below video how when taken apart the bellevilles stay on the piston, but the shims stay in the reg body. Degas, remove reg bonnet and see if you can see the shims in the reg body. If it's silver you can just use an oring pic and they will come right out. Sometimes you can turn the bottle upside down and they will drop out, but most times they have a bot of silicone lube on them and they will be stuck in the body. I'd take one out and see what it does. If not you can always pick up a cheap bottle with 800psi output off ebay cheap. Here's a $50 one with 850psi output

Wow I plugged the 582 fps avg and 5.2 gr for an avg FPE of 3.9 so that's a little better than what I was guessing for HPA set up.

Christian, you got that right. Those were the el cheapo Daisy wadcutters. Found them for less than $4 bucks in a local hardware store. They had 2 packs left so I bought both of them.

We're only talking between 2 and 3 fpe here. At least I know it will penetrate one side of a water jug! LOL When I've used up all my el' cheapo pellets, it's time to head back to the hardware store or Walmart.

Seems like fun to me, thanks for a decent review, and PICTURES! Videos rule the day but still some have a hard time viewing videos ( and/or get distracted-bored/other) via Internet, pictures are great!

Due to economics ( mine ) I wouldnt purchase one but I would darn sure like to plink some cans. Then again I am one of those airgun type that thinks everyone should also own a Red Ryder , good clean fun and the classic. 

If for you (anyone ) the thought of buying something used doesnt make you gasp the Crosman 600 is a hoot also! Likely 3x the rate of fire of that Sig so loud BP folks will say " no way" and just a classic worth owing.
