Put my Taipan on a diet!

Sold my Standard and got a Shorty! What I wanted all along and am happy I finally was able to get one in my hands. I was in the process of lightening my rig with scope (which I am still) and the Shorty's came in stock at Utah Airguns which I had a pre-order for a good 5-6 weeks with no real end in sight before cancelling and picking up a standard instead. My Standard with Athlon Ares ETR UHD 3-18x50 scope weighed in at a whopping 10lbs 6oz. Lol definitely not a lightweight and wanted to get a lighter scope to help with weight. Well turns out the Standard laminate stock weight bare by itself was 7lbs 12oz. Then a 2lb 9oz scope. 1oz missing was ARCA rail I installed. Well now the Shorty in beech I just got weighs in at 6lbs 8oz. That's nice! Scope I'm going with the Helos BTR Gen2 2-12x42 with lightweight rings, scope caps and bubble level should weigh right around 2lbs total maybe a hair less. So total weight should be right around 8.5lbs. And a good 4" shorter which I really wanted originally as well. Should be a good little pester!

Love mine!

Your other topic about signing your gun up for Weight Watchers inspired me to take the bloated scope off my Taipan and switch to something lighter. It’s been a couple years since I only shot far with my gun so I figured it would get more use if I made the gun handle better. Not sure of the exact numbers on my weight savings but man did it make a difference. Thanks for relighting my Taipan flame. That big heavy scope was the fly in the ointment.

Please post a review on that scope when you receive it. I have a shorty .25 on the way and I’m looking for a scope that fits it well. The new Helos Gen 2 has every feature I want in a scope. I have a couple decent scopes that I’m not using but the shorter one is 14” long and 32 oz in weight.

Bugbuster and that is all you need for pesting with a taipan vet. 3 to 12 x 32

Thanks guys! It's really a nice handy little gun. I'm still waiting on my scope from MK Machining, I might try to throw my old Discovery SFP scope just to get it going in the mean time. I got my ARCA rail installed this morning. For a beech stock its not a bad looking piece of wood. Also noticed the airtube and shroud are now a matte black color vs there previous gloss. I'm a fan of that look.

Love the matte black look! Also talon tunes was reporting a tighter ES on his last shipment of vets with the matte finish.

@Vetmx yeah it was your posts as well that made me realize that for my wants and needs just dropping some scope weight wasn't going to help. My 4-16x44 Midas Tac was 9oz lighter than the Ares ETR but even then was still 9lbs 13oz. It did make it feel better for sure but then knew I needed to go with my gut and get the shorty. Glad to have rekindled the Taipan flame for you!

@wimpanzee I'm looking forward to what you think on the Helos 2-12! Did you get Mil?

Is it a .22?

I love my .25 shorty, and will end up getting one in .22 at some point.

Ok so now I see the pictures and its a .22..

Very nice looking Vet!

One suggestion is try a LPVO scope. The swampfox 1-10 has a version with Mil or MOA reticle so it’s far more useful than the 556 BDC reticle. 10x is most you will need and BTW if you add the 007 to it then it becomes 15x while the 1X zoom can focus very close, superb combo. Unfortunately it’s not terribly light at 20ox but still lighter than most normal scopes, only thing is the lack of parallax adjustment but you are pesting not trying to print tiny groups at 100 yards.

coons aren’t that small and you have your impact to snipe field mouse at 100 yards.

Yeah man .22. I thought about .25 but haven't owned a .25 in years and trying to get pellets for one would have taken longer than the gun lol. I got enough .22 pellets to last a decade. Whenever you do get a .22 you'll love it. There just fantastic little guns

You might have me mistaken with someone else bud. Never owned a Impact and no coons around me. Also the Veteran is my only airgun now. I pest on our dairy and our house when need be. 90% of what I shoot is birds like sparrows, starlings, dove and pigeons. Otherwise it's ground squirrels or sage rats. I did look into LVPOs though and it do prefer an adjustable parallax as I do shoot pretty far and will be using this in our barns at low power.
