Obviously I have never tried these type of competitions but could a Daystate Pulsar or a Standard power Red Wolf be able to hold up in a BR or FT competition?
% yes. My standard RW in .177 has been my go to field target Gun for the past two years. A good friend of mine used a pulsar and did well too. Both are great options. Wolverine R and the new Revere would also be good options if wanting to avoid the electronics. Let us know what you decide.
I would also do some small pesting so if I go with one of these rifles I would probably lean on going with the .22 cal. I read through the forum everyday and I bounce around so much that it is so hard to decide which gun to go with. I know what is going to happen...I will buy one and will wait a while and buy another...and another...and another etc!!!
I am in the same boat Lopey15 and I too am a big fan of .22 caliber. I seriously considered a Pulsar for pesting and think it would be a great platform but its too heavy for me to tote around all day in the field so I am considering other rifles for hunting. Although it may work great for 100 yd BR shooting? I think longer barrel conventional rifles are more the norm for 100 yard BR shooting as they can sling lead at higher velocities that some projectiles prefer. My plans to join the "pack" should materialize in the very near future for BR shooting. However, my research continues to find the perfect bull pup style hunting rifle to take up residence in my safe.
Yo/Airgun Advisor...I didn't realize why you mentioned .177 but reading in the FT section I noticed that there are 20FPE limits in during these competitions. I guess with that being said most people stick with .177 in FT and bigger calibers for BR?
Sounds like a good plan...as I read more and more everyday I am getting very interested in the competition side of airgunning. Right now I mostly hunt with my airguns and do very little paper shooting. I live in west texas and there are no clubs close to me so basically I am on my own as far as the competition side. I wouldn't mind making the drive to RMAC or EBR but it would be nice to get my feet wet before I headed to events such as these. For now I think I will make the jump on a new gun and start practicing!
