PSI QUESTION on bottle

I put a car valve steam on a bottle cap, Used a floor pump and pumped 30 lbs in the plastic bottle, Shot it with a 22 caliber pellet nothing, I then screwed the cap on another bottle pumped it up to 80 PSI shot it with a 22 caliber pellet and BOOM... holy cow,,,,,

My question is how mush pressure can a plastic bottle hold,

The guys making rockets will go to 100psi and more. There are some brands that are better but I don't remember what they are.

2l soda bottle bust at around 150-170psi.

Put around 2-3 spoon fulls of Baby powder or similar product into the bottle before pumping it up to about 100 psi. Neat explosion….

Ok thinks guys now I feel safer going to 100 PSI , The baby power sounds cool,

When a projectile strikes a bottle of a gas it has les substance to transfer energy to. With water you begin to have hydrostatic shock and more energy is transferred and is a more visible "show". when the bottle is under stress from air pressure (80 psi) the plastic is pre loaded with kinetic energy and the pellet hole creates a point where the pressure can tear the bottle to escape.

curious how did you attach the car valve stem to the bottle cap? Do you mind posting a picture?

Valve stems are made with a channel which mates to the tire rim. That channel seals in a hole drilled into the bottle cap.

Put about a third of the bottle full of water before filling to about 100 PSI.

Recover your bottle caps with valves for reuse.

What size drill bit is being used?

The valve stem package will have the size hole it fits, You also need a valve stem tool so you can pull on the stem, any auto store will know what your talking about....

Better buy cheep valve stems, I put 80 psi in a 2 liter bottle with about 1/4 water in it not sure where the top half went, Boom it was gone.

same with my cheap plastic whiskey bottle put a little water in it added 80 PSI and the top half is gone, Lost both in a few hours, The wife heard the bangs and see says there in low orbit some where , LOL. 

Did get to try the baby powder its next on the list

Get these.

I tried the valve stems. They are a pain in the you know what. And yeah I lost one already. I have used these blast caps several times already they work well and are cheap.
