the barrel opening 'has' to be square or the gas wont escape evenly at the pellet base when it leaves .. you arnt going to achieve that with grandpas hacksaw trust me and if its cut properly with a lathe or jig then your going to put chamfer on it to finish the edge period ..

Grandpa did. Muzzle loaders shot fine. Most gunsmiths in those days built their own shop, made their own tools, and made and rifled their own barrels, all with hand tools.

Grind, cut , or sand off the crown on any barrel , make it level and that rifle will shoot just as accurate or better, the crown is only protection for the rifling, disagree ? Prove me wrong.

I think we are getting a little off topic. The question was not “How to properly cut and crown a barrel “

Um, how far off topic is information regarding how to cut and crown a barrel in a thread about the usefulness of crowning a barrel? I mean on a scale of 1 to ten?
