protection for the carbon fiber bottle

Today I received my Impact X from Utah Airguns and I was looking for a commercial solution to protect the carbon bottle from scratching when shooting from a sandbag without a bipod. If there is none, then I have an old wetsuit that will probably lose an arm, and I'll make a bottle cover as a starter. I'll eventually get an adapter so I can mount my Harris bipod.

Thanks,

Dave

You could you a saber tac bottle clamp and a bipod

I bought a neoprene water bottle cover off eBay. The problem is the thickness cannot interfere with the barrel, as some are thicker than others and I bought thick neoprene. Mine was so close that I chose not to use it on the gun, but only on the spare air cylinder for protection. It would be great if I'd have gotten the thinner cover though.

Edit to add, that I just spun on the bottle that I kept the neoprene sock on and it does clear the barrel by about .020" now. When it was new it did touch it and I did not like that. I'll be leaving it on now. There are neoprene motorcycle fork tube covers that will work well too for a tighter fit, but the end will need sewn shut if you don't want the bottle exposed at all and they are the thicker material. You can get them in various sizes, colors, and thicknesses for cheap.

I use heat shrink tubing to cover my CF bottles on some of my rifles it shrinks about 40% so a 3" shrinks down on a bottle nicely. Tough and hides the decal on the bottle.

Example of what I buy

You 'are not supposed to paint CF bottles' but I have also tried the rubberized undercoating spray and bedliner sprays for a protective coat that's non-slip too.

Finally, the adhesive vinyl sheets and tape... It comes in solid colors, various wood grains, patterns and even camo.

Another variation of that: Look up 'vinyl car wrap' and your local auto body or tinting custom shop may have pieces from a project they'd sell cheap. This is tough stuff!

I like the ideas here!

Since not many vinyl gun skin companies serve the air gun market you have to just buy some flat stock and cut your own pattern, that's what I did when I saw what a friend who does paintball did with his equipment. I bought a couple square feet and with scissors cut out paper patterns to check fit on the rifle, then cut it out of the vinyl and applied it. It's stood up to weather, handling and cleaning/lube fluids.

Here's a couple of links to that type of supplier.

'Black' guns don't stay black too long in my house, they get "character". If their for the range only they can get colorful... But my hunting rifles are all camoed to blend in. But it has to be practical and DURABLE in the field which is why I've tried so many methods.

A lot of my rifles are Duracoated in Coyote color as a protective layer and base coat (stocks, plastic and metal parts) then the appropriate terrain colors applied over that.

I fight fire with fire and use grip tape on the bottle on my FX Crown, it does not slide on any bag... It's kinda like black, self adhesive, coarse sand paper, made for pistol grips etc... I do have to be careful when unscrewing the bottle on my Crown so it doesn't contact the barrel shroud... I have another grip tape that is more of a rubber type material with a "pebbled" textured surface... It's on the right in the photo below... The vinyl wrap is tough schtufff, there is even easy release wrap material with different adhesives than more permanent vinyl, the vinyl is rated in years, 5 year, 10 year etc...

Just my .02...

PS: I cut vinyl, pretty much for anything, didn't know there was any market for air gun related vinyl wraps, I have all kinds of camo, colors, carbon fiber look in different finishes and colors, foils etc... I use a Roland DG professional vinyl cutting plotter... I do my own air guns, some of you have seen my Leshiy...

Oh, if you want that direction, here's the link to some great stuff (I put it on the underside of the bottle on a WARP I use for a truck gun and there is no slipping going on there!)

And I've seen this used too but it's mainly sold on amazon, search for "dragon grips stickers". Got some of it on my notebook that was so slick it was hard to carry. All different sizes n shapes useful for 'inlay' looks.
