PROD Stroke and Hammer Preload Recommendations

I just purchase a used PROD and it will be here tomorrow. Watched a lot of Youtube videos on the best combination. I know it differs for each setup and Hill mods. I have a Chrony and will be using it to measure velocities with different pellets. I mostly use H&N FTTs in my other weapons. I will start with that. This is a stock gun, no mods other than an LDC.

Most of the vids I have seen recommend a 5 turn and one turn for consistent FPS and FPE. I will probably replace the barrel with a militia hammer forged. My Urban came with a BSA cold forged barrel and it will shoot almost one hole groups at 30 and 50yds. Any suggestions on a start point would be appreciated. Do not want to waste a lot of pellets on worthless combinations.

Welcome to AGN - these are the best guys in the interwebs for airgun stuff.

I have the Prod with the MM barrel. It is a hell of a shooter - for a light carbine. The gun is at best a 15 FPE gun. 30-40 yards is well within the abilities of the gun. Mine is set for ~14 FPE using the 14.3 Crosman Hollow Points from Walmart. Don't discount these pellets, they shoot well and are available nearly everywhere.



The stock adjustments are listed on the Crosman website. Start at stock before you mess with it. Get a good baseline to compare your experiment results.

If you want a high shot count the "bstaley" ( sp ) tune does work very well in this crosman set up.

Good advice. Since it is a used pistol, I do not know what its set on so I will return it to stock specs and work from there. I will also check out the bstaley tune. Thanks

Always play safe with high pressure air. De gas the gun before you remove parts, so you don't loose some of your parts in the process.



Dry fire does not hurt the gun.

Before you replace the P-rod barrel, do some accuracy testing with the Benjamin barrel. You might be surprised at it's accuracy. Might just save you some money.

Thanks Jonah, I plan to do that. I know some barrels are spot on and some not. Luck of the draw on when it was made.
