PROD AND SLUGS

AAc9888,

I'm not too sure about the Marauder Pistol, but I have a 1720T, which has a 10" Lothar Walther barrel in it. Not sure if it's the same barrel as the Marauder Pistol.

I regularly shoot 15 grain, 2S nose, hollowpoints, with a flat base, through my 1720T. I'm only shooting at around 480-500 FPS, and my accuracy out to 35 yards is phenomenal. I am going to jack up the power on this Pistol to just under 12 ft.lb, so I can use it for Pistol Field Target. I'll be posting a video on the disassembly of the 1720T, and power modifications.

Tom makes his own slugs, I believe. I've used the Nielsen sample pack in a 1720T and couldn't find one that was as good as an air arms 10.3, but as soon as I get off of Corvid leave, I intend to try his special mix

My PRods hated the Neilson sample packs in .22 Cal. Perhaps if I tried single loading them, the results could improve.

I have had great success with Nielsen slugs, so no disrespect- I have hundreds of his delightful pills and shot some of them today- just not in a crosman . YMMV, but the PRods I have and have handled, have been very pellet picky for ultimate accuracy.

There is an old Ted's Holdover vid on YouTube where he wrings out a PRod, and both of my guns mimicked his results

Oakhonor,

Yes, you are correct. I think the possible difference is in the diameter. I had these dies made for a Rapid Air Weapons TM 1000 barrel, and Steyr LG 110 FT barrel, which are very similar to each other.

I'm not sure what the diameter of the Neilson slugs are, but I'm going to guess that mine are a touch smaller in diameter (.1775), which is probably why they shoot halfway decent through a choked barrel. Larger diameter slugs show the characteristics that you described with your guns.

Being that I'm stuck shooting Indoors at the moment as well, when I get a chance to mess with the 1720T, I'll be doing some indoor velocity strings and tests, and I'll do some preliminary group testing at 10 meters.

Stay safe, stay tuned
