I haven't shot my BSA for the past three months. I've been way to busy with honey do's and have shifted more time and money to center fires. I finally took out the BSA two weeks back and have been shooting it consistently and have noticed I don't shoot the gun as long I normally do before needing a top off. When I'm benchrest shooting, I use my single shot tray so I don't count my shoots per fill. So today, I was having a shooting session and noticed again I didn't get as many shots as I normally got. I had time to run the gun over the chrony and confirmed my suspicions.
Last year when I installed the carbon fiber bottle, I shot the gun over the chrony and was getting over a 110 shots with an 880 fps average before falling off the reg. Now I'm only getting 60 shots average 860 fps before falling off the reg. The gun was not cold when shot over the chrony because I was just shooting it outside. I have done nothing to this gun since I stored the gun and I always store my two PCP air guns at 2000 psi. I store my guns in the garage where its colder then the house but the temperature never drops below 40. I used a Joe B HPA filter to fill my CF tanks so I know I'm not getting moisture in my guns.
I just finished cleaning the barrel really good tonight and shot 50 fouling shots with the cheaper CHP. I will shoot another string over the chorny tomorrow again and see if the gun just had a dirty barrel but I'm not so sure if having a dirty barrel equates to having a lower shot count.
What do you think could be the problem? If cleaning the barrel doesn't solve the problem, I will have no choice but to take the gun apart. I do remember having similar problems with a .25 mrod I used to own. For some reason unknown to me, the gun was shooting terrible and lost 30 to 50 fps after being stored. The gun was shooting lights out right before I stored the gun for about a month and was never handle since. I took the hold gun apart, cleaned everything, and reassemble the gun. Ran the gun over the chrony to get it back where it was shooting and problem was solved. Don't know what fixed the problem but the part that got me was the gun was shooting great before being put away and for some reason, the gun started shooting terrible after not being handle for a month. Having the same problem now with the BSA.
The matador on the other hand has always shot great and I've had that gun taken apart many times. I shot the matador last week and its still shooting great. Very accurate gun. Need to knock on wood.
