Pro Sport Redux

Decided to see what all the Pro Sport business is about...

So, I just picked up a nice older Pro Sport Serial 986!

Tons of excess shmoo and goo throughout. All cleaned up. Polished mating surfaces, adjusted trigger etc.

Light rust cleanup and polishing.

Radiused the safety.

New seals, these were all chowdered.

Polished the cocking arm and removed a small ding.

Stock cleanup.

Just like new only better!

Nice job Lewis, who ever had it before was a firm believer in grease. Odd that was also stamped "177" on the exterior. Wonder what was up with that?? What kind of finish did you go with on the stock, looks great and as you said better that new. Haha, that gun resembles the one the Steve has been prepping for me..

I have not seen another with the stamping but it is an early model it also has a more basic checkering than the current ones, who knows?

I finished the stock with Tru oil then knocked the gloss down just a little with 0000 steel wool.

Beautiful job. I'm a big fan of polishing the cocking arm. As you know, it not only look better, it feels fantastic--like silk compared to than that chalky raw aluminum. Was there a stock spring, spring guide and top hat, or had they tuned it? Anyway, great looking rifle.

I also radiused the corners at the front of the cocking arm, just for comfort. All stock internals. I just ordered a 12 fpe Vortek kit for it.

Nice Lewis! I've always wanted one of those but I'm a lefty and the high, right handed cheek piece won't do it for me. They are beautiful guns though. One of the few springers I'd love to add to the ones I already have. Enjoy my friend!

I am a lefty as well. I usually put a neoprene cover over the stock for me. I have a couple of other right handed guns. Just one of the compromises you have to make for the bulk of the population who haven't evolved to your level yet.

did you steam the wood first before sanding to remove the dents, scratches , marks

Nice job of reviving a great gun! I hope it shoots as well as it looks after all of your TLC.

Yes. Some areas improved more than others. Probably depending on how old the dents were. I was very careful to avoid any of the checkered areas since they were perfect as luck would have it.
