Does anyone know of a 3x+ prism scope (not a red dot!) that can be mounted on a PRod/1720t that is set up as a carbine? The split rail seems like a real problem.
not sure havent tried it .. what youd need is about a 4" piece of low pic rail that could be mounted using the forward 2/3rds of it to the receiver half in the rear of the mag port ..
This one has a good chance of fitting.

but you will need dovetail to weaver inserts

I started the process of figuring this out some time ago but didn't get very far.
As I recall I found a low profile dovetail to picatinny adapter that was too long but the screw spacing was going to work well with the rear section of rail behind the magazine. It was going to have to be cut but still two or three screws on the rail.
I measured some prism scopes at local stores & the mount was going to fit but I thought the eye relief was a potential problem with so little room to move it back & forth.
I do think it can be done. Have to start with the right adapter & then find the prism with the right eye relief.
I'll see if I have any of the products I was considering bookmarked on my laptop.
Hello Like qball said look at the Vortex spitfire 3x I have it on my FWB700 its a very nice optic, small and clear. Also has 2 hight options Eric

Still curious about this if you want to post what you were looking st.

I did have a folder of products in my bookmarks but most of the relevant ones were dead links. I should have time next week to dig through all of my adapters and see if I ordered something.
I suspect with the 2.7" eye relief of the 5x Spitfire you might need an offset adapter to bring the scope back a bit. I don't know how forgiving the eye relief is on the higher powered prisms. I looked through a Spitfire 1x recently and it seemed like the eye relief was fairly forgiving so maybe that will translate to the 5x as well. Of course I was just looking through one at a shop and not actually on a rifle and shooting, which is the real test.
I hope that works for you. I still may convert my Prod into a dedicated backyard bunny rig. A prism scope would be my preference for sure. Please keep us updated.
I was impressed with the 1x I looked through. No 3x or 5x on the shelf. Hopefully it will work for you. Post a picture of it mocked up on your 1720 even if it's not going to work out.
Just thinking out loud, would it be possible to have a fixed mount prism scope that mounted forward of or possibly even over the breech & then load with a sliding tray?
I believe I saw a 1720 that had a picatinny adapter that mounted over the breech & then a loading tray that slid underneath.
That would open up other options if the 3x doesn't work out.
Monstrum makes a 5x with around 3.8" eye relief as I recall.

Could you link to what you're talking about in terms of the sliding loading tray?
Having a rail over the breech would simplify all these concerns.
@scouty gotcha, interesting idea -- I should have the 1720 Monday, I'll post some pics when it arrives.
